Dell delays shipment of P4EE by
Yousuf Khan
Well-well, looks as if Dell won't be able to ship the P4EE systems on time.
Now as some people around here have suggested, since Dell is so concerned
about the satisfaction of its customer-base and will not offer any product
that cannot be shipped on time, if this means will Dell will simply...

Red Storm thread on comp.arch by
Felger Carbon
Robert Myers has correctly pointed out that there is a very long thread
entitled "Cray to commercialize Red Storm" on comp.arch.
Unfortunately, a more accurate subject title would be "vastly more than
you ever wanted to know about checksums". I fear this thread would be
of no interest to the...

Chipset I810E, FSB 100MHZ and PC-133? by
Jean
Chipset I810E, FSB 100MHZ and PC-133?
The spec of Chipset I810E says support of FSB 133MHz, support of not
more than PC100.
The FSB is not driving the memory bus?
Where could I read about it?

Itanium performance by
[email protected]
Hi,
As you all know, the new Itanium CPUs have a record-breaking SPECfp score,
and should therefore be an excellent choice for scientific and technical
computing.
I've been using some Itanium boxes for running some of my own codes
(written in Fortran, C, Java etc), and I have been severly...

More Opteron 64-bit vs. 32-bit benchmarks by
Tony Hill
Hey all
Just came across this today while looking up some numbers on Spec's
site. Seems AMD has some new numbers posted in SPECweb99_SSL. Most
interesting is that they have two identical Opteron systems setup, one
running 32-bit Linux and 32-bit Zeus (webserver), the other running
64-bit Linux...

R&D: One or many ? year = 1983 by

Background: Bob Heinlein invented CAD in the fictional book, "The Door

electronic.
In 1959 I was taking a course in drafting as part of my engineering
education. Hand work, pencil on vellum. No erasures allowed (almost).

Where did Tualatin start? by
CLF
Hi all,
I need to know what speeds of the Celeron Socket 370s were based on
Coppermine, and what ones are based on Tualatin. With P3 its easy enough,
1Ghz is Cumine, 1Ghz is Tualatin.
I'm stuck with the Celeron, though, wanted to buy a 1GHz to upgrade an old
PC, but not sure if that is...

Hi,
I realise that I'm probably on the wrong NG - BUT - does anyone know where I
might be able to get my hands on some Motorola MC14469 async chips, please?
They are not in production any more, but I'm hoping someone will have some
stock they want to get rid of. Tried eBay etc. but no luck so...

P4EE 'extreme' - when & what speeds by
JP
What are the details on the p4EE extreme? What is the intel roadmap
for the release of the chip, will it only be available in 3.2GH (or
also 3.0 & 2.8)?
Is it worth the wait and $ over the current 3.0?

Predictions of computing back in 1976 by
Yousuf Khan
Interesting predictions about the state of computing by the year 2001, as
seen by luminaries of 1976, such as Robert Noyce (Intel cofounder), and J.
Presper Eckert (ENIAC inventor):
