Bluetooth storage device for mobile phones . . by
Barbara
This device is a sort of small HDD in your hand but it could be better
if somehow fitted it with the cellphone, as it will not be hassle free
to carry two devices(cellphone and BluOnyx). The amount of data that
you can store in this device ranges between 1 GB to 40 GB. This 85 x
54 x 6 mm devices...

Fixing a Maxtor HD? by
V
Here's a Maxtor 200GB SATA/150 HD that should have been RMA'ed.
Maxtor wouldn't RMA it because it was supplied as a Sony Desktop PC
component (OEM HD).
But doing a low-level format gives the illusion that the drive is now
OK.

Burned out Maxtor hard drive by
winelover
I have a Maxtor one touch 250 gig hard drive. By mistake, I plugged a
digital camera adapter into the back of it. The camera was a 5.0 volt
adapter and the Maxtor is a 3.0 volt adapter. The hard drive will not
power up. Does anyone have any experience with something like this?
Do you think I...

Hot-pluggable SATA? by
Man-wai Chang
The motherboard is Asus M2N-E. It uses Nvidia nForce 570 Ultra chipset.
I would like to connect a PATA hard disk drawer to a SATA port via a
PATA-SATA converter. Then I would power up the system, and insert a PATA
harddisk into the drawer, expecting it to show up as a removable disk.
Is this...

Question by
Bill & Debbie
Assuming an external USB hard drive is connected and powered up, does usage
have anything to do with wear and heat? I ask because I have one and I play
my music from it for long periods of time. The drive gets pretty warm. Is
that a concern? If I were using the drive to say access financial...

Hi,
It seems that everytime i'm working wireless on my laptop, the file i
need is on a usb drive somewhere in the house so i can't get to it.
In other words: i'd really love to have a NAS solution. Of course, i'm
dreaming of a 2TB NAS device to which i can hook up my existing usb

Find out physical locations of HD without inspecting? by
cpliu
How do I use the Properties of HD to figure out the physical location
of the HD?
The primary and secondary channels from the motherboard are not hard
to figure out.
Such as:
Onboard Primary ATA Channel
Maxtor 6L060J3: Location 0 (Primary ATA Channel)
WDC WD600BB-75CAA0: Location 1 (Primary ATA...

Laptop 2.5" HDD IDE ribbon cable? by
galapogos
Hi,
I'm wondering if there are any differences among 2.5" HDD ribbon
cables? Compared to their desktop variants, these cables are 2mm pitch
instead of 2.54mm pitch, and 44pin rather than 40pin. However, I'm not
sure if there are the 88 conductor cables for UDMA modes 4 and
above(since 40pin IDE...

Hardware triple mirror RAID 1? by
tomviolin
I am interested in setting up a triple-mirrored RAID 1 setup in a
Linux environment.
I know that eSATA cards such as the SIL3114r support RAID 1 in
hardware. However, I do not know if their BIOS supports triple-
mirroring.
Failing that, can I safely assume that Linux software RAID...

Testing a HDD from a LaCie external array by
skinnylatte
I am attempting to repair a Lacie 2TB external storage unit. It contains
4 x Hitachi 'Deskstar' 500Gb drives, apparently in a Raid0(?) array. I
have been told by the LAcie service dept that two of my drives are
faulty.
So I am testing the individual drives by plugging them into my slave IDE...

I have a 250gb Samsung hard drive that you can set the jumpers to
limit the drive to 32gb. I had it set to the full 250gb and installed
windows xp on it.
I then had the computer apart for repair and put the jumper on it set
to 32gb limit. when I booted up it insisted I had an unformatted...

CompactFlash geometries ? by
Quentin David Jones[_2_]
Greetings all,
We are using CompactFlash disks here, various brands, currently Apacer.
We find that the drive geometry varies even for the same make and model -
e.g. a single batch of Apacer 256M has two different geometries :
Cyl 980; T/Cyl 16; S/T 32; B/S 512 (501760 sectors)
and
Cyl 31;...
