New overclocker looking for advice by
[email protected]
I'm going to be building a new PC from scratch this weekend or so. I
am planning on buying an AMD Opteron 165 with an Asus A8N-SLI
motherboard. I have never overclocked a cpu, memory, or gpu. I would
like advice on anything and everything anyone would happen to know
about. Is the A8N-SLI a good...

Alienware & Dell rumour by
YKhan
Unconfirmed: Dell buys Alienware - Alpha Blog - alpha.cnet.com
http://reviews.cnet.com/4531-10921_7-6464030.html
Might be a way for Dell to start selling AMD machines. Gateway did a
similar thing to sell AMD machines by buying Emachines.

How true is this statement about Z-RAM? by
YKhan
From the Wikipedia site: Z-RAM is even faster than SRAM? Is there that
much capacitance in the lines between the transistors?
"The small cell size leads, in a roundabout way, to Z-RAM being faster
than even SRAM, normally much faster than DRAM. SRAM's large cell size
means that any "reasonable"...

Twinhead VXe P88TE Windows XP works with sound ! by
WhatAboutBob?
Hey people,
I just wanted to let anyone know that I have a Twinhead Slimnote VXe
(model P88TE) that I have upgraded on my own.
I upgraded the cpu from a Mobile Pentium II 366MHz to a Mobile Celeron
466MHz (it uses a Micro-PGA1 a.k.a. uPGA1 processor package) without a
hitch! I also installed a 6X...

Single-bit corrected errors by

I've been moving disk drives (DVD and HDD) around and upgrading OS
(SuSE 9.0 to 10.0) over the past couple of days. In the process
I've been playing with BIOS to get the drives ordered the way I
wanted (and figure out who listens to BIOS drive ordering ;).
While trying to figure out some...

chip speeds by
Peter
Does anyone know of a chart that shows what cpu chips are fastest ? I'm
having a hard time knowing the difference between pentium d, pentium 4,
sempron, athlon, celeron, etc. I know sempron & celeron are slower but
by how much slower I don't know.
Thanks,
Pete

Intel's Next Generation Microarchitecture by

So, I get to toot my own horn here; I have an excellent article online
about Intel's next generation core, with an unmatched level of detail:

In this article, I go through each major section of the MPU and compare

Athlon 64's: a shared memory bus? by
pigdos
Do the Athlon 64's feature a shared memory bus? Can the north bridge in
Athlon 64 systems directly read/write system memory (without utilizing the
A64's built-in memory controller)? I'm guessing the north bridge can, but
I'm not sure.

HT aan of uit by
Tinus
Beste mensen,
krijgen.
Graag jullie advies.

cpu voltage by

I'm totally a puter dummy, so bear with me? Or at least don't laugh in
my puter face. :)
Q: I see similar cpu's (roughly same fsb, cache, socket size, etc)
with different voltages, ie; 1.5, 1.7, whatever. How much of a factor
can this be? Do I have to match voltages to my MOBO? RAM? etc?
thank...
