Microsoft lays down the rules about 64-bit by
Yousuf Khan
AMD introduced the Athlon 64 today, and Microsoft was on hand to intro its
64-bit Windows too. Microsoft said that it will support both Intel and AMD
64-bit, but no more than that. I think what they are referring to when they
talk about Intel 64-bit is Itanium, but no other 64-bit that Intel...

P4 Extreme vs Athlon 64 by
rms
maybe I'm supposed to walk away
thinking the P4 EE was the winner?
The Emergency Edition is such a joke. Intel has no intention of selling
any of these chips at $1000 a pop, even if they existed now: there won't be
any til December anyway.

Accessing PCI devices (low level programming) by
Sebastien DI MERCURIO
Hello all,
I'm trying to figure out how OSes are working by making mine. For the
moment, I try to detect PCi devices in my computer.
So, I have took an Intel PCi bridge datasheet and I have read it. I have
tried to get device ID and vendor ID of device 0, function 0 on bus 0 with a
simple piece...

AMD 2600 running at 1243 mhz by
mbernardi
I just bought and built a shuttle SN45G with a AMD 2600 CPU.
Everything went well except (big except) my AMD 2600 is running only
at 1243 mhz. That is the speed that is being recognized by the
computer and by the AMD utility that is suppose to tell you the speed
independant of any bios issues. ...

L1 cache disabled OR NOT? by
Colas
I upgraded my old dell xps d 233Mhz with the powerleap 1.4 celeron
cpu. It's working great on bios A09 and windows 98se at 933Mhz.
One question then, at start up there is an two beep error message -
error system cache - cache disabled!
I just hit escape and it boots into windows fine.
of course...

Minimal write-only slave PCI board? by
Mike
Hi!
I'd like to make a PCB for a minimal, write-only slave PCI
board, just to output some data.
I thought about the following, to reach the "minimal" goal:
Use only addresses, do not perform a full data write cycle.
If I choose an address range, e.g.:

Ok, Who's got the virus? by
Keith R. Williams
Somone on .chips has a virus and has been sending it out at a
prodigious rate. I just received a warning from someone (sans
virus) with an address list that looks like a who's who of
..chips.
I'm getting hit about once a minute. The virus is about 150K so
that's a lot of crap! ...and that's...

Problem with Kingston KHX-3200 512kit by
K.O.dreamer
I'm using this KHX-3200 512kit with my Abit IS-7E, P-IV2.4C at 3.0 FX-5800.
I like to know whether is it a fact that using current overclocked spec at
3.0Ghz in BIOS 250/200 which is 5:4 for CPU/Mem, is stable, but when I try
to get anything above this, I cannot get Prime95 error free, even up...

Silent Computer - Advice by
David Taylor
**** The word 'Silent' is subjective and based on what a person
considers to be noise, along with the sensitivity of the person's
ears, and tolerance of different pitches. One man's silence is another
man's noise *****
I've bought components after reading reviews that they're silent, only

Supreme Court clears Rambus of fraud. by
Tim Sullivan
http://biz.yahoo.com/rc/031006/court_tech_infineon_2.html
Looks like Rambus is one step closer to proving infringement. Too bad
for all the anti-Rambus shills here who work for companies that will
soon have to pay up.

Odd Question by
Exray
An Intel Centrino based laptop was recently stolen from a local retail
store. The store has retained much information on the laptop...its serial
number, for example.
Presumably at some point the thief will connect to the internet, using the
pre-installed Windows XP Home OS.
The question is...

AIB Companies To Adopt XGI Volari GPUs? by

While not directly related to Nvidia or ATI, the fact that XGI is entering
the consumer graphics industry with its range of Volari GPUs may effect both
of the current leaders. hopefully in a positive way, for the end user. God
knows we could use some more competition here.
Personally, I am most...
