SiI 0680 Ultra-133 Medley ATA Raid Board Driver - Remove Wrong Driver by
pc
I pulled a dumb stunt. When I installed the raid board on an XP/sp2
system, I selected the non-raid driver, which puts a bunch of files
named pnp680.* (inf, sys, cat, etc.) in the system32 folder.
Now windows just can't be coaxed into using the proper pnp680r (raid)
files. Not by hook...

My new Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 by
Seagate Happy
My previous disc drive was a Barracuda 7200.7 SATA ST380013AS. From the
very beginning I noticed how noisy it was compared to a previous PATA
Seagate I owned, ST340014A. Emailing Seagate technical support didn't
help, they said the drive should be quiet, but it wasn't. Apparently

What happen to bad hard drives by
[email protected]
I recently had a hard drive (18 gb) go bad and being that the system
had a maintenance contract, the old hard drive was replaced by a new
drive. After the new drive was installed, the old drive was sent
back.
My question is, what does the company do with the old hard drive?
Will they refurbish...

Article about data revocery at Kroll Ontrack by
Arno Wagner
Also gives some insights what is done in data recovery and names some
cost figures. Not too much technical details, but still worth a read.
Special focus is on RAID recovery.

Q re sharing documents folder when dual booting XP/Vista by
Ian R
Hi
I'm currently running XP Pro.
I've moved the location of "My Documents" to its own partition for easier
backup etc. I have set this folder to keep private and I logon to XP with a
password.
I plan to install Vista and dual boot to XP for any applications that don't
like Vista.

Windows DOS boxes access all drives by
Tom Del Rosso
Every time a DOS app runs under Win2k, Windows pauses it until all the
sleeping drives spin up. Is there a way to prevent the DOS boxes from
enumerating the drives?

80 wire IDE drive cable? by
Andrew Hamilton
Just bought a new DVD writer (got a good price). Manual says you need
an 80 wire cable for optimal performance. At my local computer store,
which is pretty big (but the clerks are clueless), all they had were
regular 40 wire IDE cables. Clerks couldn't help me.
What should I be looking...

New hd suspension system really works by
Prescott Kid
I just changed computer cases to a new Antec Solo "Quiet Mini Tower Case."
It has the traditional hard drive trays with soft silicone grommets for the
drive to sit on. Still heard the drive doing its thing being that I sit 2
feet away from the tower. Today I tried using the strap suspension...
