Utility to tell me my HDD temperatures? by
Ian R
Hi
I've just squeezed another drive in to the last space possible to do so in
my case.
As its not right behind the air intake fan like the other drives it feels
warmer to the touch than all the others even though its just idling - the
drive isn't accessed at the moment as it doesn't contain...

Need to warm disk up before formatting? by
Joe S
I run XP Pro on a home machine. I have a new SATA hard drive.
Before formatting it, is it advisable to let the new hard drive warm up
by running it for an hour or more in order to eliminate any further
thermal creep?

Notebook Fried my HDD by
DRT
I have a failing notebook. I thought it was just the original 2.5" HDD
inside that failed. So I plugged in this spare HDD (that is in perfect
working condition), and the spare worked for about 10 minutes but then
this second HDD failed too!
When I plug in both HDDs to an USB enclosure, the...

Copying an image onto a FAT32 partition by
Eric
Hi all, I did a backup with Acronis Trueimage onto an external (NTFS)
USB hard disk. I need to install Linux on another partition of this
same disk, and before I'd like to copy the image somewhere for
safety.
Is it safe to copy it to a FAT32 partition of another USB hard disk,
or should I reformat...

Any hope to recover data? by
jason_in98
It sounds like your drive has some serious errors and unfortunately I
don’t think a data recovery software solution will be up to the task
in your case. You will have to look for a physical data recovery
solution. Look for a reliable data recovery company. We have 1000 PCs
in our office and we...

Returning to non-Raid config from Raid 0? by
Dave[_4_]
I'm using 2 - WD 36 gig Raptors in Raid 0, driven by the ICH5/R
controller (865PE, Epox 4PDA2+). I would like to eliminate the Raid
array and go to a conventional config using a single Raptor as the
Master boot drive containing the OS--Win2Kpro.
The single Raptor will be connected to Port 0 of...

Damaged / Failed WD 80GB Hard Drive by
tomcee
Hello:
I've had a WD (Western Digital) 80GB hard drive fail.
The drive (secondary or D: drive) still 'appears' under 'My
Computer' (Win98)
Double clicking on this drive gives a 'Device not available' error
window.
Properties shows 0 bytes total and 0 bytes available.

Alright to format 500GB as one partition? by
Jon D
I use XP Pro/SP2 at home. The PC hardware is a bit slow.
I have got a 500GB hard drive mainly to use as a backup for my main
data.
Is there anything (perhaps in XP or in NTFS or from good sense) which
suggests that I'm wiser not to make the whole 500 GB into one partition?

Help with my new hard drive!!! by
Stevo
OK...boot to it and check My Computer. If the Raptor doesn't show up,
right click the My Computer desktop icon and select Manage. It better
show up in there. If it does, I think you can format it. After that,
it should show up in My Computer. If you get that far, we can go from
there.
Good...

Access times / Drive rotation speed affects in RAID 5 array by
Bowser17
I am wonding what type of increase i will see in a RAID 5 setup using
SATA 150 7200 RPM drives vs SATA 150 10K drives (WD Raptors). The
raptors are much more expensive than some of the 7200 counterparts,
but the access times are much faster. I would be using these in a
standard workstation...
