CHKDSK only works on one partition of data drive by
[email protected]
Hi,
I have XP running on a WD 40G drive, and a 250GB
Maxtor drive in two partitions as the data drive
It has worked fine for a long time, although I
don't use it much.
Lately I noticed the cursor would hang on the hourglass
if I clicked on partition F. This would eventually lead

[email protected]
Somehow some strange weird thing Israel is known as the hi-tech hub in the world. Israel only has 7 millions people. How can these 7 millions can create the world leading hi-tech nation? Something is not right in this pic. I see clearly what this is all about. First US pro-Zionist policy. Thanks...

IBM T22 CMOS Battery Connector by
[email protected]
I was given an IBM T22 laptop about 4-1/2 years ago and it has been gathering dust ever since.
I took it out and powered on, but there is a password set and so I decided to open it up and disconnect the main and back-up batteries following the instructions on page 60, 61, and 62 of the ThinkPad...

Speech recognition, Naturally Speaking vs Windows Speech Recognition by
John Doe
Looks like the Dragon NaturallySpeaking text-to-speech utility does
not read webpage material unless it is in a text box. That's pretty
much useless, so I'll need a separate TTS program.
But having real speech recognition again certainly will be a relief,
after many months in the Windows...

Old ASUS CUV4X by
[email protected]
I have a older ASUS CUV4X motherboard that I'm using in a pc in an attempt to get videos to play.
After fresh install of Windows XP, using several different drives, I cannot seem to get a video playing in either of the three media players I tried. Not DVDs or video files.
At best I might get a...

Windows 8 file manager, undu file operation? by
John Doe
Did Microsoft nuke the very useful feature of being able to undu file
operations in its file manager? Another thing it was useful for is
hovering over the undu selection to see (in the status bar) exactly
what your last operation was.

PCIe graphics slow (bad lanes?) by
[email protected]
I was checking out an old PC (Intel 965 chipset) and drawing the display
seems rather slow. I swapped the graphics card with another aged PC
of same chipset and RAM and CPU speed. The slowness seems to be the mainboard,
not due to graphics card. I checked BIOS settings, and couldn't see...

Water cooling? by
Davej
This is beginning to seem like the way to go for my next big desktop. Any advice? Maybe a flow sensor to plug into the cpu fan socket so that the MB can sense when it isn't working?

Cheaper Windows 7 yet? by
Laurence[_3_]
Now that Win8 seems to be established, can we expect to see some cheaper W7s
available for home builders?
Know of any?
Still running XP on all desktops, but recent laptop acquisition came with
7 - I like it, but prohibitively expensive to buy for my desktops.
Anyone?

What's wrong with this idea? by
Davej
Since we now have pc's that can boot off of anything and in addition we have SSD drives and all sorts of other choices... why can't Microsoft make an OS and an appropriate drive that would be immune to any type of malware infection? You could have a read-only boot drive dedicated to the OS. The...

Interpreting Gigabyte LGA775 mobo specs by

I'm looking for a Gigabyte LGA775 board that has among other things a PCIe 2.0 or higher slot for the video card.
I've been looking at specs on their boards and notice there are some that in the overview specify PCIe 2.0 but some for example this GA-EP43T-UD3L...

Best file system for a 64gb micro-SDHC card? by
JakeD
Hi all,
I bought a micro-SDHC card (64gb) to use in my Windows 7 PC and my XP
laptop, as a convenient way of storing and transporting files between the
two machines.
The card came formatted as FAT. Would it be worth re-formatting it as exFAT
- or even NTFS?
Also: Both machines have an SDHC...

any alternative to Antec spot coolers? by
[email protected]
I have used them twice to blow on some thermal problem.
I don't like their method of attaching to one of the mainboard screws.
This seems rather rickety if somebody else could move the PC case not
knowing what is rigged up inside.
Instead I drilled a hole in the bottom or back of the case to...
