always check **** before you discard it by [email protected]
I have an old Core 2 PC, no longer worth using. Took the side off it, and saw crappy old graphics card, so dragged it into the garage for trip to recycling yard. But my partner advised me this was a PC she got from a former workplace that shut down, and it had extra disk drives in it. So looked...

Due to the overwhelming response in Duck****er's defense... :o( by Fritz Wuehler[_5_]
Due to the overwhelming response in his defense, I find myself stunned and amazed. The hundreds - nay, thousands of posts defending the faggot ass-rimming queer known as Raid aka Dustbin Cook have given me pause. I am near faint from the ardour, passion and total indignation with which those posts...

New uwave MAMR HDD technology for mechanical HDD to give 40TB drives by RayLopez99
Notice the fact that mechanical hard drives last longer than SSD, a fact that's undisputed. I ended up getting a SSD for my personal computers but I backup religiously. However, when SSDs fail, they fail fast, unlike SMART monitored HDDs which often give a day or week's...

Google class is going to be the best invention evaaar ! by [email protected]
The reason why it "failed" is exactly why it is going to "succeed". The unfair people in the cafees didn't like it. And that is exactly why it is going to "succeed". Because the world needs it ! This will illiminate unfair behaviour.

Broken SATA plug on motherboard by [email protected]
I wanted to add a second hard drive to my computer. It's an older desktop, but works well using XP. When I looked inside, I found the plastic housing around the second SATA plug is gone. (This is the Data cable plug). The metal pins are still there, sticking out of the m-board. I've dont a lot of...

Why do SATA drives have those tiny pin power plugs by [email protected]
It seems that since the beginning of computers, everything had Molex plugs and they worked fine. To use a SATA drive, I need an adaptor to convert to those tiny pins on the drive. I almost wonder how enough current can get thru those tiny pins. What gets me most, is why all those pins are needed....

Weird floppy drive, How to connect it? by [email protected]
I bought a floppy drive on ebay, intending to replace the dead one in my old Win98 desktop computer. I did not know what I was getting as far as the cables. The drive itself is very thin, and I knew that when I bought it, but it's wide enough to fit in the drive bay, so I only thought there would...

What the hell??? (HDD partitioning) by [email protected]
I have an old 17 year old computer running Win98se. I have a bootable 120gb drive for C: with 3 more partitions. C: thru F:. That works fine. Recently I replaced my slave drive, with a Western Digital 160gb drive. That drive was setup with Fdisk, set for Extended partition at 100% of drive, with...

FireWire 400 (IEEE 1394 by [email protected]
Does anyone really use FireWire 400 (IEEE 1394. Or is that old technology? One of my computers had a card in it for this, and I never knew what it was for. It just said IEEE 1394 on it. I finally looked it up. Yet, I have never seen anything with those kind of plugs on it. Maybe this is just...

Scanning a document by Seymore4Head[_2_]
I have a router that has a USB port and I can use it as a network printer. I don't use it because I had a couple of trial and error attempts to get the thing to print with drivers and such. Now that my P2P machine has went down, I want to try to use it as the network printer again, but I have a...

IDE Harddrive cables by [email protected]
I was told that the IDE hard drives work better with the 80 wire cables than with the 40 wire ones. I know a guy who has a lot of this stuff and he gave me a few of the 80 wire cables. But there is a problem. All of the ones he gave me, have about 2.5 or 3 inches between the two plugs on the drive...

physical damage to PCIE slot[?] by [email protected]
I got a damaged PC: the back of the case had been whacked next to the video card. To remove the card, I had to straighten the back slots. Now it had been issuing beeps on startup meaning no VGA card detected. I tried 3 other cards in the slot, but still beeped at me. So then I tried the secondary...

TOMOKO Mechanical Blue Switch Anti-ghosting USB by Flasherly[_2_]
Not bad, that is for anything less, if you happened to catch it - then they'd obviously have had to give it away for free;- mechanical Blue "replacement Cherry" keys, offhand, I noticed going for $7 in lots of five;- these being approximate to Blacks, at a sixth more desirable tactile clatter,...

What are "Refurbished" hard drives? by [email protected]
I often see "Refurbished" hard drives being sold on ebay. What do they refurbish? As far as I know, once a HDD has problems with the platters or heads, they are trash. About the only part that can be repaired or replaced is the circuit board, but how often do they go bad? (probably very seldom). So...

Where can I get extra Hard Drive jumpers by [email protected]
Where can I get extra Hard Drive jumpers for IDE/PATA drives that need them? I've boughten drives from ebay, and they rarely include these jumpers. I'm constantly having to borrow them from other drives that are not in use. I'd like to just buy 10 or 20 of them to have on hand, and be done with it....
