alec
I have an old P3C that I would like to take apart to possibly switch
the cpu. Does anyone have any experience taking apart this laptop who
could give me some pointers. I'm sure hammers and chisels are not
required.g

George S.
Last night the kids told me their PC's screen started going blank with no
keyboard reaction so there was nothing they could do but a hard power off.
When I pressed the power button the machine went through it's usual BIOS
check, after that completes I received a black screen with the...

Observer3
I know many Gateway customers use AOL because it comes free for a few
months with a new computer. So, some of you might be interested to see a
sneak peak at version 9, which will be released sometime later this year:

Help with replacing heatsink on 700x by
Jp
Hi, My 700x purchased March 02 is out of warranty. I was blowing out
the dust and noticed that one of the two clips holding the heatsink
had broken in two and fallen to the bottom of the computer. I want to
replace the whole heatsink but the cradle (part that heatsink sits on)
seems to be different...

Laptops outdoors by
Seveets
Hi all,
I enjoy taking the lap top outdoors on a deck
but have trouble sometimes seeing the screen in the light of day.
Does anyone have any experiences with a model that has a brighter than
normal screen or
what do other people do (just squint a lot)??
Thanks

modem disconnect problem...NEED HELP!!! by
[email protected]
I ran into this same problem with a friend's computer.
Frequent disconnects, one ISP was much more reliable than another.
The cause of the problem: on the back of the computer, the
phone line was plugged in to "Telephone" instead of "Line-in."
Most modems will not work at all if you plug them in...

Laptop batteries by
Observer3
Hello Gateway group. I have three quick questions about laptops and batteries.
1) When you plug-in and unplug the AC adapter for laptops, do you need to turn the computer off first? I thought there might be some safety issues here.
2) It is my understanding that when the AC adapter is...

AOL myth? by
Observer3
All new Gateway computers come with 6 months free of AOL service. It used to be a year. Anyway, from comments I've read on other PC-related newsgroups, AOL software is regarded as almost a virus. At the very least, I constantly read stories about how it will corrupt your computer system. Are...

Notebook Sound Update by
Scott
I called GW tech support because my new 400 SP Plus
notebook won't play any sound when booting up or shutting
down. All sounds work under Control Panel/Sounds and
when playing CD's, DVD's. etc. GW had me reload the
sound card drivers, with no change. They suggested going
back to the original...

Is there a way of checking my monitor for a problem? After it is on for
awhile it has a frying sound and sometimes shuts down and I have to reboot
the computer to get it to come on again.

wireless netwok, off-topic, but I have 2 gateways ;) by

I am buying a house that is prewired with CAT-5 everywhere. The cable comes
into the house in a metal closet from whence all in-house wiring emanates,
so I can't put a wireless router there (signal wouldn't get out due to
metal, I think). There will be two computers in the immediate future, one...
