And then there was nothing... by
Ron Tuijnman
The P III computer of my wife suddenly died.
Last week she called me and told me she had just a black screen
and nothing seemed to work. She beeing a blonde and I being a
male chauvinist pig, I thought it was just a simple hangup. So I
generously came to her aid: C-A-D-ed a few times, no...

amd and linux by
Ben
60C is a bit hot - most programs to monitor motherboard temperatures set the
warning levels at 60. Easy to check - just take the side panel off the case
and that'll drop temperatures quickly and burn some cd's. If all goes
smoothly look at ways to drop your temperatures.
eg keep the case dust free...

CD back up for Pentium 200 by
Cardo
I am looking for a CD writer for my Pentium 200 PC with Windows 95 and only
want it for backing up files. All the options I have looked at say that they
either require something higher than Windows 95 or higher than a Pentium
200. Is this strictly true for what I want it for or is this for...

Good AMD upgrade mobo? by
grendel
Looking for a good mobo to upgrade to from my 800 MHZ Athlon A7V board. From
what I hear an nForce2 is the best Athlon chipset to get. Looks like the
A7N8X-X is the boards to get. Trying to spend less than $300 for mobo, CPU
and 512 MB of good DDR400 memory. (gonna get some from Crucial).

RAM Performance by
frag
I was thinking to change my 2*256 SDRAM PC133 memory's chip with a 512 DDR
333 (my motherboard support both).
Who know the improvement in performance in such change (the system is a P4
2.53)?
In other words: is it convenient?
Thanks

PC problem, overheated? by
Jon Rønningen
Hello,
Recently my computer starting shutting itself off, then it seemed like the
power would go on and off (the leds on the cd and power flashed) until I
pulled out the electricity-plug. Then if I replugged it would go OK for a
few minutes, and then do the same thing. I suspect this has something...

Generic KB Driver? by
Mort
I bought a no name ("Linkworld"?) keyboard that has extra keys
(Power,Wake, etc) but came with no drivers. I tried to find mfg's website w/
no luck. Does anybody know where I can get a driver (generic or whatever)
that might work with this thing?
Thanks,
Mort

Back up you important files now. It sounds like your hard drive may be ready

XP2600+ @ 333MHz fsb with PC2100 by
Chris Morley
Hi, i am looking at upgrading my processor (currently a XP1800, with MSI
6380E - KT3 chipset) to a XP2600+.
I have checked the mobo settings and i can run the FSB at 333MHz, however my
current ram is only 266MHz (PC2100).
Is it worth replacing with faster ram (PC2700) so the entire system can...

Serial Mouse with KVM Switch by
Thomas M
I want to buy a KVM switch to control two computers--a new Dell server
that came without a keyboard or mouse, and an older machine (case circa
1992, but internal components are all relatively new) with a DIN5
keyboard port and a DB25 serial mouse port. The mouse already uses a DB9

dvd drive recognised as a removeable disk?! by
Alex Walker
I'm trying to use a new unbranded dvd drive in a 400Mhz dell base unit.
Win98 has recognised it as being there, but it thinks that its a removeable
disk drive, occasionally it thinks its a harddrive, and sometimes it just
wont recognise it at all. According to the device manager, the device...

NOISE by

My new PC makes a whole lot of noise. I think it's the fan from the power
supply, but I'm not sure.
Has anyone any thoughts on how to make it more quiet?
