Multi displays - onboard and seperate? by

If you are running XP or 2K.... Set the PC to boot off of the AGP card,
and
when in Windows, set the PCI card to the primary in the display properties
dialog.
Good idea, unfortunately as soon as windows boots up win2k), the monitor
switches itself off - maybe its loading the wrong drivers -...

Power usage software? by
-
Is there a piece of software (hopefully freeware too!) that can calculate
the system's current power usage in watts, etc? I know some programs tell
you what the current voltages are, etc, but I'm more after a power usage
monitor that can show you if your system is on the cusp of draining more
power...

IBM Deskstar win2k problem by
-
I've just added an IBM Deskstar 60GB 7200RPM drive that worked fine under
win 98 to my win 2k system. It gives my a STOP message, when I remove the
drive I can boot fine. I've hooked it up as a slave (pure data, no os on
it) - the jumpers and the IDE cables are fine. I know the drive is fine
since...

DVD / CDRW drive master slave situation by
-
I'm finding that my DVD drive is very stuttery and basically useless - I'm
wondering if its been set up properly. The CD-ROM drive is master, but the
IDE cable goes into the DVD drive first (ie is closest to the motherboard
IDE controller). If the CD drive is master, is it going to the cd drive...

Looking at the list of my hardware interrupt request numbers I have IRQ Nos
0,1,4,6,7,8,9,10,12,13,14 and 15 in use. However, IRQ 7 is being...

FSB speed / Memory speed by
-
As some of you may be aware (and is not really relevant to this post), my
motherboard is unable to work at the FSB of 133 that it should be able to.
Running at 100Mhz causes no problems whatsoever.
My hardware store just advised me to set the CPU host frequency (the
equivalent of FSB in my AMIBIOS...

However, using the SiSoftware 2004 utility to examine my motherboard
(Mainboard Information category in the software), I apparently have 4 USB

PSU info by

As I may need to get a new PSU, can anyone explain what:
"input range: 115V/220V switchable";
"50hz AC input" and
"frequency 50-60Hz"
refer to exactly?
Could anyone advise me on whether a 300W PSU would be adequate for a machine
that has 2 cd drives, floppy, 1 HD, tv card, usb lan card, modem,...

Hardware related? by

My old machine constantly gets a Windows protection error. (Win 98SE). No
new hardware has been added or removed. No software has been added or
removed. It isn't on a network and doesn't have internet access. I cannot
boot properly into Windows anymore.
Is this hardware related? Or putting it...

Issue solved. Alien Zord emailed me with the following, if anyone else
experiences the same problem:
"The 3rd yellow wire is tachogenerator. It enables some software to monitor
the fan speed. Its not needed otherwise."
Thus just put the connection where the previous black and red wires went,
and...

Graphics card with RGB out? by

So what the hell can I do?
I saw a cool gadget that takes an s-video in and then allows you to play out
via two or three scarts. Its possible and is a lot cheaper than a new
graphics card.

USB 2.0 enclosure, brand matter at all? by
- C -
Hi, I am looking to buy a USB 2.0 enclosure. I am not sure if different
brands have different USB controllers which would affect the speed, or if
there are other factors that would determine the quality of an enclosure.
What should I look for? Please give me some advice. Thanks in advance.
