Problem with Lite-On 52246s by
Dan G
This is usually due to burning media too fast, there are very few CDR's that
will burn reliably at 48x-52x. If it's doing this at 40x on TY or RiTEC TG
media, it's probably the drive. Have you tried different firmware on the
drive?

Simple problems, I hope, with my new Lite-on Burner - please help by
Dan G
Go back and double check your jumper setting and position on the IDE cable.
(should be on the end of the cable) Then go into BIOS and make sure the
drive is seen as UDMA and detection set to "auto". Lastly, go device manager
and uninstall the IDE controller and reboot. Then go out and get some...

anyone experience w/ LiteOn 1633? by
Dan G
It's essentially an 8x burner, anything faster results in very low burn
quality. Over-all, not a good choice in burners. The Pioneer is light years
ahead of LiteOn in quality.
For my money, it would be an NEC 3520 in a generic firewire case, which
would be about the same cost. USB2 is not very...

Can't write faster than 2x on a LG GSA-4163B.... by
Dan G
You need to provide more information. What media, exactly, is this? What's
the MID code? Use http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ to find out what it
is.
Are the higher speeds not available in Nero, or are you selecting 8x and
it's just burning at 2x?

DVD-RW system requirements? by
Dan G
Your biggest problems will be software. Win98 is dead. Install 512 MB of RAM
and update to Win2000.
2nd problem will be the speed of your HD and IDE controller. Most likely you
will not exceed 8x burning, maybe even 4x. A PCI HD controller card would
help a lot, with a good 7200RPM drive.
The...

MAXELL DVD-R vs DVD+R Quality Questions... by
Dan G
Maxell DVD-R can be made by different makers, the ones made by Maxell in
Japan are top quality media. Other makers will not be so good. So you need
to specify who made them, and/or stick with ones marked "Made In Japan".
There are also 2x and 4x versions that are completely different media.
LiteOn...

Try unplugging one of the drives, then the other, to see if one is causing
the issue. Be sure to re-jumper and cable appropriately.

Future burners? by
Dan G
The next developments will be mostly in Serial-ATA burners and increased RW
speeds. A larger buffer is pretty useless, 2MB is plenty with current
under-run protections. The LiteOn 52246S produces equal or higher quality
burns than the Plextor, and does it on a wider range of media and at...

Bad CD-R burns on LiteOn 52x.. by
Dan G
Try the drive in another computer if you can. Sounds like an issue of some
sort, but it might not be the drive. You could also update Nero. Also try
the drive in DAO mode, no multisession.

"Digital vinyl" CDR by Verbatim - any comments? by
Dan G
They have used at least a couple different media types for these, and they
are not "high quality" by today's standards. I don't really see how you can
put CMC and TY in the same sentence, but the Verbatims are nowhere near TY
quality. Probably somewhere in between CMC and TY. They are good for...

Nero leaving temporary files behind by

If he is doing certain kind of burns, and has his preferences set wrong,
Nero will deliberately leave image files behind, they would have an

extension. It is certainly not normal for Nero to leave ".tmp" files behind.

Verification error by

Verification is an extremely unreliable way to check a disc. Depending on
the program used, there are many reasons it may fail that have nothing to do
with the integrity of the disc. One easy and fast way to check a disc is
with Nero CDSpeed's transfer rate test. Any disc that will produce a...
