Need some Pentium counseling by
Silver Surfer
Folks,
My ThinkPad 390E is equipped with a Pentium II, 300 MHz processor in the
MMC-2 package. It appears to me that several faster Pentium III processors
are available in the MMC-2 package. Can I drop one of the faster PIIIs in
my machine and expect it to function properly and to produce a...

IBM whitepaper on FSB snooping by
Bill Davidsen
Please don't let this become a religious debate on external memory
controllers vs. built-in, but IBM has done some serious bus contention
reduction with their new memory controller.

some xeon questions. by
nagual
I recently obtained a xeon chip and was wondering some info about it.
The packaging said that its an hp zeon 3.2ghz 1 mb processor kit for
dl360 g3. The xeon processor is brand new and never been used. It
includes all documentation and packaging.
1st question. How much is this thing worth. I...

865PERL will not Shutdown by
[email protected]
I have an Intel 865PERL and the board will not shut down. Pushing the
power button causes the system to reboot. Pushing the reset button also
causes the system to reboot (as it should). Choosing "shutdown" from
Windows reboots the system, but this also happens when the system is
not in Windows.
My...

Suggestions for Xeon motherboards by
Dave (from the UK)
A friend has got for me two or three 3.06 GHz Xeon processors (512 KB
cache, 533 MHz FSB which are upgrades for a Compaq DL360 G3 - p/n
322472-B21).
I'm thinking of buying a Xeon motherboard and putting them in it to make
a Linux workstation. (I don't have the Compaq server).
Any suggestions as...

Any thoughts on any motherboards that might allow overclocking a 3.06

Intel 850emv2 compatible with ATI Radeon 9800 or x850? by
Markeau
I want to upgrade my Intel 850emv2 system from an ATI Radeon 8500 to
either a 9800 or x850. All I can find on the mobo specs are that it's
AGP 2.0 spec (AGP 4x). It looks like the 9800 and x850 are AGP 3.0
spec (AGP 4x/8x).
Anybody know for sure if either of these two cards will work properly?
I...

AMD to leave x86 behind? by
YKhan
No real details here, just a "stay tuned" message, but that should be
enough to start wild speculations running.
"One strategic path that will knock you for a loop, and which I'll
detail soon, is AMD's coming escape from the confines of Intel's
x86 instruction set. To this point, AMD has resisted...

No Boot on 865PERL by
[email protected]
I recently installed two new 1GB DDR400 sticks of RAM. On booting, a
wire was stuck in the CPU cooler and thus would not spin. A small thin
plume of smoke came from somewhere around the hard disk area. I have no
clue what could have burned out (probably not the HD, but something
around it), but one...

1GHZ Pentium IIs? by
[email protected]
Hi,
I've been looking up the Pentium II on Intel's website due to some
problems we've had with our computer - the processor was a long shot,
I know - and I was surprised to find that Intel didn't seem to have
made any P2s of more than 450 MHZ speed. This puzzles me as ours is
1GHZ (and it...

Detect PXA27x processor by

Hi there,
I want to programmatically find out whether the current processor is a
Intel PXA27x supporting WMMX or WMMX2 but have not found any nice way
of doing that.
I know that I can find identification information in register zero in
coprocessor 15, but that information does not seem to say...
