I have spent a few weeks compiling information regarding intel's/amd's probe mode. There is barely anything to be found. I have so far: code that does in/out, memory read/write 32, and cs/eip write. I will publish as soon as i get everything together. It seems the in target probes send...

installing more ram in BTX915g by Bruce
BTX 915G (South Lake 2) 800 MHz Motherboard DDR2 PC3200, non-ecc. I want to install 2 gigs more ram. Looking inside the computer, it has 2 512 chips, which are in 1 & 3 slots. When I get the new ram, do I put those in 2 & 4? Instead of taking the two in there now and putting them in 1 & 2, and the...

Third International Anti-Wintel Day by Tarquin Mills
To celebrate this years Anti-Wintel Day I would like to point out how slow, overpriced and energy inefficient Intel x86 processors are, compared to ARM CPUs running RISC OS or Linux. Pentiums use 100+ watts, while a BTX 9" CPU fan and "motor bike" sized BTX heatsink to cool the CPU are ridiculous,...

EFI by Ziza
When will BIOS die? Its time to get rid of it. I dont understand why EFI is not jet a standard. From what I red EFI is going to be better so what is the problem? Why manufacturers keep forcing BIOS? Bios is a dinosaur.

50% price cuts for AMD X2's by bbbl67
The price war is getting underway now, it's great to be a PC consumer again, if not a shareholder in these companies. It's in response to Intel's imminent release of the Core 2 architecture. "AMD Strikes Back: 50% price cut to dual core" http://www.hkepc.com/bbs/itnews.php?tid=613657

Hi all, Is there a difference in the heat that these two series put out? Am I right in thinking I remember reading somewhere that the 9xx series put out less? I'm asking because I want to buy a Scythe Ninja for my 930 and have found a review of the cooler with an 820 as the testbed chip and the...

Hi, I got myself the Pentium D 940 CPU and I have an Intel D975XBX mainboard. I notice that in the BIOS it reports that there is 2048 L2 Cache and not 2x2048 as per the CPU. I even flashed the BIOS to the latest on Intel's website. Is this correct and if not, how do I fix it? More details below...
