NetBurst, Bangalore and automated design by
Leif Sterner
One reason that the Pentium 4 / NetBurst performs weak as measured in ops
per Hertz / oops per transistor
could be the use of automated design. A picture of the die simply looks
messy and unappetizing as compared
to other designs such as Athlon64.
The succesessor/ rejuvenated predecessor Pentium M...

Itanium tutorial kernel, any interest? by
tk
Hi everybody,
interested in Itanium architecture?
I was (am?).
I did not find any good tutorial SW (not just separate pieces
of code) about ia64 HW/SW- interface and had to write one.
(I do not think that about 2,0000,000- lines ia64 Linux kernel
is good as tutorial, not to me at least.....)

How do Pentium M and Pentium 4 compare on performance? by
Wes Harrison
I am looking at purchasing a notebook powered by a Pentium M at 1.7GHz and
was wondering how it compares to a Pentium 4 in terms of performance. What
would the corresponding speed of a Pentium 4 be to get the same level of
performance? I suspect it's more than 1.7GHz. Am I right?

Intel's FB-DIMM, any kind of RAM will work for your controller? by
Yousuf Khan
Intel is introducing a type of DRAM called FB-DIMMs (fully buffered).
Apparently the idea is to be able to put any kind of DRAM technology (e.g.
DDR1 vs. DDR2) behind a buffer without having to worry about redesigning
your memory controller. Of course this intermediate step will add some
latency to...

USB 2.0 on Intel 865PERL mobo by
chrisv
Trying to install the USB 2.0 drivers (from the motherboard's CD)
results in failure. Experiments using a USB 2.0 flash-drive prove I'm
not getting 2.0 speeds. BIOS settings to enable high-speed USB look
to be correct.
Any ideas?

Is my Intel D845WN causing corruption in data? by

I bought a 160GB Western Digital HD during Christmas. The intend of
the HD is to put mostly media files. To cut a long story short, i

is not just bound to...
