DoD Harddrive Secure Erase Wipe by
WebDawg
I have a few questions and I have been googling for a while.
You mentioned that it is a felony to erase a hard disk wrong. Can you explain further? Where did you get this information from?
Also you mentioned approved software? Does the DOD actually have a list?
For instance if I were to...

How Do We Actually Use the On/Off Button of the LaCie Drive? by
maria
I understand that we can switch the power On and Off
of the LaCie drive. We switch it off when we do not plan to use it.
However, don't we have to STOP the drive before we switch it off?
As you all know, it is virtually impossible to STOP it unless
we reboot the machine and it is the first thing we...

Floppy Drive by
sofin
I have a digital board that is connected to a 5 1/4" floopy drive
through a cable.
But I like to replace the 5 1/4" drive by a 3 1/2" floopy drive or
other new storage
devices. Is there any interface devices that can bridge the 5 1/4"
drive and other
storage devices?

I need to get a new desktop machine, and I'm planning on getting a card
to support RAID mirroring in case of a disk crash. My wife has a 6 month
old Dell that she bought with some brand of card & 2 drives, but Dell
didn't install the card. We discovered that the first thing the card

Recovering data from LaCie array? by
richard
I have a Lacie big fisk extreme - 1TB. Inside are 2 x 500G IDE drives.
Does the LAcie controller board set these up as RAID0? The unit stopped
working when I pulled the plug on it without first 'ejecting' it from the
system tray as recommended. It doesn't show up in Windows Explorer, but...

headaches of that. So my notion is to have an external hardrive with an...

I have been trying to find out what the consistency model used by
pNFS is, and have been failing dismally - I can't even find any
description for NFSv4, despite Web references to it.
Note that I am NOT talking about the file system corruption issue,
but about what is and is not defined when you...

We have some datasets which were scratched but were able to restore
them back. The datasets are still in uncataloged state. I tried
accessing the dataset using the VOLSER but it is still unaccessible. I
need a JCL which would help me catalog those datasets or a JCL to copy
those datasets directly...

IOPS benchmarks - looking for opinions by
fx [François-Xavier Peretmere]
Hi everyone,
I recently read about the heated contest between two Storage vendors
regarding some IOPS tests one did with the other's gear. The latter's claim
is that the IOPS benchmark is biased and irrelevant, and therefore they
don't run it with their own products. Not being neither a HPC or...

Upgrading AIT Firmware by

I hope this is not too mundane a question for this group, but I need to
upgrade an AIT-3 tape drive with 0209 firmware and obtained from the tape
library vendor the firmware file that ends with .GBF. Going to the Sony
web site, none of the utilities for Windows appear to take files that end...

IOPS from RAID units by
davidhoffer
The IOPS the array can deliver is the aggregate of all the drives in the raid group less the hot spares and parity drives. Its more complicated than that of course but its a not bad rule of thumb. So 10 data drives that can each deliver 100 iops could (in theory) deliver 1000 iops when bound...
