Dell Inspiron 6400 hard drive upgrade by
GT[_5_]
Does anyone know of any restrictions on hard drive upgrades in laptops?
There is no point asking Dell because they will simply say that they can
only offer support on Dell products and cannot advise me on non-dell
upgrades.
I have an Inspiron 6400 with a 100GB (I think its Sata) drive at...

A very odd Win2000 problem...? by
Kenneth
Howdy,
We have a Win2000 Pro box on our lan that is used
(nominally) as our server. That is, it is not used as a
workstation, but holds files that other systems access.
Earlier today, I had to do something on that system even
though other systems were having no trouble with it.
I immediately saw...

Monitor problem? by
Frank Booth Snr[_2_]
Over the past 2 months, a fault seems to have developed with my
monitor which is a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 720, nearly 10 years old,
but still a very good picture.
Whenever the computer goes into hibernation or standby mode, and I
power off the monitor, then come back later and switch it back on,...

USB problem by

Hello all:
Somebody gave me an IBM Netvista desktop computer (8305Y1G) with Windows
2000 on it. I upgraded to Windows XP Professional. But the USB ports don't
work with a Kingston flash drive (no indication of the presence of such an
E: drive at all). Whether this situation existed already with...

sudden humming sound and loss of video audio by
Roy[_5_]
Last week I experienced a peculiarity that I can't think of any reason
why and how did it happen...
I was playing a video and while it was running, I plugged in an
external hard drive, which immediately changed the sound of the audio;
from normal to suddenly being drowned by a persistent humming...

2/3 of HD missing by
RFR[_4_]
I bought a WD 320GB ATA100 HD and installed it a few months ago.
Initially I installed it in my main computer and tried to format and
form partitions on it using the CDR. It just would not permit
partitioning - wierd considering that I had done this task dozens of
times from the same CD with no...

XP? by
Perry Aynum
Sorry if this question has been asked, but I need a new PC, and I hate the
thought of buying Vista. Anyone major PC makers still sell PCs with XP as
an option?
Thanks.

I am now using a ps/2-vga KVM to link 4 machines potentially. This
enables me to assist friends by working on their machines by simply
connecting up loose cables from the KVM to their machine(s) and
selecting same on the KVM. Has made life very simple for me, and I
would like to retain that...

E7300 vs Q8200 by

Hi,
Which one should be better for a administrative task like office?
I thought E7300 should be a good choose but the shopkeeper said Q8200
would be better. I always thought that you had to choose a quad when
you want to do video, 3D or gaming and the dual core should be fine
for...
