Denzil Hathway
I'm wondering if there is any value in upgrading the Intel Pentium 4, 1500
MHz processor in my 5 yrs old Gateway Performance 1500 Desktop PC - I wonder
at the same time if it is possible to upgrade at all.
The machine, which is used at home in my winter place for only six months a
year, behaves...

A common part until you want one
Yesterday, I decided to get a PC going that I'd been handed for free.
It's an old Gateway server with a dual Pentium 3 motherboard, meaning
it has little value, but would do for a second machine running Linux.
So I went around looking for a couple of suitable...

A Miracle from Ed by
Lostdriver
Sir Ed,
It's good to see you are still participating in the newsgroups. I have a big
problem that may take a (EJN) miracle to fix.
The problem: "Somehow" the system registry was corrupted. From this point,
this system would not start windows. Somebody deleted AOL search finds in
the registry...

A networking question I should know the answer to, but ... by
Marshall Schuon
And I think I probably do, what with all the reading over all the
years, but ...
I finally *actually* want to do a wireless network of this 700XL with
my old Dell XPS R450.
I have a cable modem, and I assume I need to hook that to a router.
But where do I go from there? Do I need cards for both...

A New Gateway by
Lee
Well soon I will be retiring my Gateway G6, 333 mhz computer and
getting my "new" Gateway DX430X. Really am excited as this one
will be "slightly faster" (grin). The old one has worked well
for me! Also the old EV700 monitor I heard so much negativityabout
has provided such good service and...

A Review: Build Your Own Server ,Tony Caputo by
Paul
A mediocre book which panders to Microsoft (2 Stars)
As a PC Assembly book, this is modestly useful, but there are a lot of
PC assembly books out there. (Incidentally, I have not found a current
title as concise and well written as "PC Hardware Configuration Guide
: For DOS and Solaris" by Ron...

There's an annoying "feature" with my A35-S159 (Toshiba Satellite) that
I can't seem to fix without your help. When I slide the pointer across
an underlined URL it will take me there without me clicking for it to do
so. Does anyone else have this type notebook, and what did you do about
it? ...

ability to PASTE in Forefox by

I cannot use the PASTE fnction within Firefox/s browser. I frequently
use this because I am lazy and do not want to retype something, so I
copy and paste. Non the less, I cannot PASTE because this function is
grayed out. Is this normal?

I need some help. I'm going to dump a bunch of info here in hopes that
someone can give me a clue.
I've got one of the new Gateway 7200XL machines, with the new BTX

Add?Change drive by
JE
I want to change the drive on a 700X by adding another drive and
transferring the data files etc. to the new drive. If I recall, when you
remove the old drive you can't boot to the new drive because it does not
have the boot sector on it, right? If so, how do you get the pc to boot to
the new...

adding 2nd hard drive to a gateway desktop by

hello once again and greets to the group
awhile back, I got my hands on a gateway RWL D0303 desktop (maybe it was KWL
D0303, i have it written down two different ways for some reason) this unit
does not sit upright, so to speak, but rather "lies flat". Almost like you
could rest a monitor on top...

Adding 7200 rpm HD to old G-450 by
May
I was recently given a relatives unwanted older Dell
computer carcass which had in it a 20 GB 7200 RPM Maxtor HD. I own a
G-450 with a better video card and such than the Dells, but space is
tight with the 13 GB 5400 drive so I would very much like to add the
Maxtor to my system. I know I can just...
