No boot after installing new AMD 2600+ CPU by
Casca
Install: I unplugged everything on my PC and then removed my old CPU
(AMD 18000+). I then installed the new CPU, afterwards applying the
Heat Sink silicone compund that came with my new cooling fan. The
fan/heat sink by the way is a good one (Volcano 7+ from Thermaltake)
which is made for the...

Graphics card woes by
David W
Just got a new graphics card: "MSI GeForce4 MX440 AGP 8x".
When I install the supplied drivers (same version as latest downloadable
from nvidia.com) in Win XP Pro, the screen seems to go into power saving
mode shortly after logging in every time. All I (and my google searches)
can think of is that...

About SMART and a Doofy IBM Deskstar... by
Steve Reinis
Bought this super quiet, super fast, seemingly super nice IBM 20 gig
Deskstar back in 2001 when it was the hot thing and it's been pretty good.
But recently it's started to become flaky. The model number is a mile long,
but I believe it's IC35L020AVER07-0. Out of the blue one day it...

Help / Advice needed / How irritating is this!!! by
ck26
I've just noticed my Windows 98 PC had crashed with a Windows Protection
error, you need to restart the machine. So I did. It crashed just before
checking the drives. Odd. Reboot. Same again. Leave it for a while switched
off. Boot. Detected drives, crash. Hmm, very odd. So, I take the case off
and...

Hi, I have an A-Open 40x CD-Writer that has suddenly stopped reading

and flickers but nothing happens.
Nero also refuses to recognise any of my blank CDs. Normally, Windows
XP would pop up with a message saying that I have...

Pentium II CPU upgrading to Pentium III ??? by

of 168pin 100MHz SDRAM and a Pentium II (Slot 1) CPU (100MHz FSB) with
450MHz installed. The computer still does the job but I was wondering if it
would be possible to tweak the thing a little bit. According to the...

Need your opinions on these systems by
Pen
The second is clearly the faster of the two. However, in my opinion
computers used for work have no business being overclocked. Stability
and accuracy are what is needed for a work computer. These are
awesome gaming machines.

NEC LCD 17" 640x480 without interpolation by
Grzegorz Borowiak
Can NEC 1760NX handle 640x480 mode in such way: every pixel is build of 4
LCD pixel, and there are two black stripes at top and bottom? LCD
resolution is 1280x1024, and 640x480 doubled is 1280x960, so there is
little difference.

Ping Spajky: MSI 6163 Q again! by
~misfit~
Hi Spajky,
I'm about to put a celly 900 coppermine in a slocket in one of my 6163 Pros.
(It has the blue sticker to denote coppermine compatability) I'll be using
the 'MS6905 Master ver:2.3' slocket. Should I just leave the jumpers on the
slocket set to 'Auto' for CPU voltage and let the BIOS...

Now my computer boots fine but...
