select 750 and 120GB HD by blade runner
I have a select 750 (AMD Athlon 750MHz, Jabil Kadoka motherboard). It came with a 20GB HD, Win98. I wanted to use a 120GB HD with pre-installed XP on it. But after choosing the OS on bootup, nothing happens.. I updated the BIOS so it can see larger HDs now but to no avail.. Has anyone run into this...

Separate program drive for new system by Granville Mitchell
I have a new Gateway DX441x running Vista. It came with a single 500G drive, but I would like to have a smaller drive for the OS and programs and use the 500G drive for data only. The plan is to keep a drive-image backup of this smaller disk that can be swapped in, eliminating any serious down...

series 510 desktop computer - very loud! by BDL
I recently purchased a series 510 desktop computer and it seems very noisy to me. I'm almost sure it's coming from one or both of the fans. Everything appears to be working normally, just loudly! Is that normal for this computer? Thanks! BDL

Service Manual availability by Me
Is there someplace I can download a service manual for GP6-433C? I want a tech's manual, not the user's manual that seems to be the only link I can find on their site. Thanks, CJon

Setup Error SU-0013 by amkuntz
I am cleaning up my old G6-200 for my parents, so I wanted to start fresh. Yesterday I used EZ Drive to reformat both the 8G (Western Digital) & 3G drives (as I have done in the past with no problems)I then installed W95 and then upgraded to W98. Everything was working fine last night, but this...

Shortcut Arrows by Scott
I have Win98 (First Edition) on my system. Last night, I got caught up on installing "critical" update files from Windows Update, including Oct 2003 Patch for IE6, SP1, Virtual Machine, Direct 9.0b, etc. Now I notice that all my desktop shortcuts have the "shorcut arrows". I uninstalled and...

Should I Worry? by Joan F \(MI\)
The hard drive in my 450X laptop just died and was replaced under warranty. The new drive is much noisier than the old one, lots of tickety tickety sounds. Should I worry about it or just be cool and keep things backed up (always a good idea). My extended warranty ends in December.

Silly question by rayreeves
I have an E4600-SE PC and I don't know how to insert a new card! There's a locking bar over all cards which won't get out of the way unless I bend the plate it is attached to Is that really what you are supposed to do? Ray Reeves

Slow audio extraction from Solo 5300 by R.V. Gronoff
Hi, after purchasing an iPod and a 40Gb HD, I've decided to transfer my CD collection to the iPod. The internal DVD drive is a Toshiba sd-c2402 which is supposed to play CDs up to 24x, but when extracting the audio files through iTunes it reaches 3x at best. So I tried my external Jackrabbit CD...

Slow boot by Tim
It's a Gateway, 845 board. It displays the video bios and GW post at a 'normal' speed, then hangs there for 30 seconds. THEN, the board doesn't beep for 55 seconds! A cursor is blinking during this time. Another 25 seconds after the beep, the XP splash screen appears and it completes at...

Slow bootup concern by Fox
Recently, I have found that my system will take between 60 to 90 seconds longer than before to boot. It will boot up, and once it has, all seems to be fine. Any thoughts as to why it is taking this much longer for the OS to boot up completely these last few weeks? Thanks to all.. Fox

slow computer by Mark Dunn
Can someone tell me why my p5-133 with 64MB slows down after a few minutes? Even with no programs running, the system monitor shows 80% processor use. The percentage will shoot up on opening a program, then stay high. Thankyou.

I have recently had problems with my Gateway 500 computer (Win XP home edition, 2.66 ghz P4, 512mb RAM, DVD writer, DSL w/ Intel Pro integrated ethernet adapter, and 2 hard drives, both Maxtor). I initially thought the problem was spyware. My internet was sluggish (DSL through a router), and I was...
