-Barton Processors by Rob
Just posting this as information. Tiger Direct is having a sale on AMD T-bred and Barton CPU's. They're OEM (no fan) but the prices look cheap enough for anyone looking to up their CPU or pick up a spare!! Rob

.BAT File To Re-Enable USB Device? by (PeteCresswell)
My Zenbook is set to hibernate if cover closed with no external power, but do nothing if cover closed with external power connected. When I close the cover and then disconnect external power, it does what I would hope: hibernates. The rub is that each time that happens, the USB device associated...

Just how much of a difference will the exrtra 512 k make? I use my machine for standard work with moderate 3d gaming and tv/video capture. I want to upgrade anyway to get my fsb to above 200mhz. I plan to buy higher end Corsair ram. Asus A7N8X version 2.0 bios 1007 AMD 2500+ AQXEA (running at...

1 Stick Good, 2 Sticks Bad: RAM Issue? by Tom Trombone
I'm running an Asus A8V with 2 sticks of DDR400 RAM, each 512MB. When I run it with only one stick (either one!) installed, it runs fine for weeks. When I run it with both installed, Windows blue-screens within a day. What gives? Any idea what could be causing this? The box ran just fine...

1.5GB RAM config by cic
Hello, I am planing to get 1.5GB of RAM for my ASUS A8V mobo. Since I already have a pair of matched OCZ 2x512MB PC3500 (2.5-3-3-7) RAM I was planing to get another one of these modules but it seems OCZ sells these only in pairs and I don't need 2GB. Now, I was planing to add an OCZ 512MB PC3200...

1.5GB RAM configuration for P4T533-C by Neeboo Nine
I understand I can upgrade to 1.5GB pc1066 RDRAM - I had been using (4) 256MB chips for a total of 1GB and had an opportunity to get a good deal on (2) 512MB. Replacing (2) of the 256MB with (2) 512MB in various configurations leads to the computer not booting up. The labels on the RDRAM...

10" Or Smaller, 1024 x 600? by (PeteCresswell)
Is there any such thing as a laptop with screen less than 10", but with resolution greater than 1024 x 600? Or am I wasting my time looking? First thing that comes to mind is the technology of LCD screens - maybe some lower limit on pixel size... -- PeteCresswell

10-year-old PCI in "cutting-edge" HP Pavilions?? by Brooke Crothers
I have an HP Pavilion a1640n with an Asus P5BW-LA motherboard...aside from one Express x16 slot, it has three other PCI slots. These (other slots) are showing up in diagnostics as 32-bit...It's almost 2007...why is it that most PCI slots in the "latest-and-greatest" consumer PCs still use the...

1000Mbs on a 66MHz bus - How do they do that? by Don
It seems odd to me that a Gigabit NIC deal with data at a rate of 1000Mbs yet the host bust is running at 66MHz. How is it possible? Could it be that the NIC is only capable of burst speeds of 1000Mbs? Don

Hi there, Any of you brave BIOS updaters out there know that the 1008 BIOS for the P4P800 is now out on the Asus site? I am still on 1005 but might well update to this as I can see some sensible fixes mentioned. In an earlier post about upgrading to 1007 someone mentioned you had to have 1006 on...
