Burned DVD, verification fails by ectoplasm
I just burned 3 DVDs on my new ASUS burner. The discs are RICOH, DVD-R. 25 pieces for about 10 US$. The burns are successful but verification fails in Nero; a closer look using binary file compare tells me that once in about every 500 megabytes there is a difference, say one byte different (e.g....

Difference between CDRs and CDRWs by Evi
I have a TEAC CD-W54E installed with Windows 2000. I ran out of my pack of CDRs and bought some CDRWs but I can't seem to format them. My CD drive doesn't recognise that I have anything in it. But my old CDRs still work fine (although I don't have any blank ones left to test the formatting). I am...

reading cd's by species8350
Hi, I use a Samsung combo sm-304b drive. Firmwa BS05 I have a lot of trouble reading music cd's. Can anyone suggest some alternative software or firmware that would improve the reading capability of my drive. If it also improves the writing capability as well, all the better.

LITEON warranty is USELESS and WORTHLESS by No Longer a LiteOn Customer
This is a follow up on my recent posting in the subject (see http://tinyurl.com/2ss5p for details). As I said there, I contacted the BBB and this is the nicely printed letter I received in reply (again, the letter is copied VERBATIM, except for my full name and other personal details)...

What am I doing wrong in copying or playing the "SecuROM (new)" kid's game Barbie Horse Adventures Mystery Ride? I installed my Barbie Horse Adventures game from drive D: and my kids play the game with the CDROM in the D: drive but I wish to make a backup for all the obvious reasons. I googled...

Hi, I have a Plextor PX750A that supports DVD-RAM. Everything works as expected for CD-R, CD-RW (icluding InCD), DVD-R, DVD+R etc The only thing I'm not sure of is how to use DVD-RAM with drive letter access? Am I supposed to use InCD for this? -- Gerry_uk

Why don't some people get the "other" use of CD-RW? by Anonymous Joe
How come people, largely, assume that CD-RW is only usable as a UDF disc? Don't they realize you can use the disc to create all the same discs as you do on CD-R? Why do they constantly insist upon using the UDF file system, and complain that they dont want to waste a CD-R on something they're...

IMA and ISO and IMG, oh my! Utterly clueless about creating a BOOTABLE CD and desperate for help! by CURIOUS ANGEL
Folks, this is now the 3rd day I've scoured the web in an honest effort to learn how to navigate the different steps to creating a bootable CD, and this post represents my white flag. There are so many acronyms beginning with "i" I don't know who goes where, comes from what, needs x, is dependent...

New Kodak CD-R's? by [email protected]
Sorry if this is another one of my stooooopid questions here, but in one of the ad flyers that came in my Sunday (news)paper this morning, I see that Kodak blank CD-R's are on sale this week. I was somewhat surprised because I remember that years ago Kodak had a reputation for producing some of...

DVD+R vs. DVD-R by J. Yazel
Is DVD+R better than DVD-R and if not why not? I'm asking because there are certain economic advantages to go with the +R but I don't have a clear picture of the pros and cons. Thanks for any help . Jack

Nero won't create boot CD by Krull
Hi, I'm trying to create a boot CD with Nero and the problem is that the resultant disc has only the boot loader (eg. DR DOS or the floppy boot image that I selected from my A: drive). All the other files that I "added" seem to be invisible to DOS after booting. However, if I look at the CD's...

Black CD-R media ? by [email protected]
Hi all, I was surprised to see at a store some "black" CD-R media (the recording surface is black). It goes against common sense to use a black surface to reflect light! What's the story about those media?

The solution for my long file names problem. by John Corliss
My project consisted of getting 2 gb worth of .jpg, .txt and .doc files with really long names and complex (long names again) folder structures onto 4 CDRs. As suggested by Ric, I zipped all the files in my project into 4 big zip files, each about 500 mb. This preserves the long file names when the...
