Leave your PC running 24/7? Leave your DSL modem always on? by
RayLopez99
The topic of conversation is do you leave your PC running all day and night? Assume it's not part of a server farm. I say no: wastes energy, and the tribology benefits are small. On the other hand, I often do leave my DSL modem on all day and night, since I'm too lazy to turn it off. As it has...

looking at a dualcore 4200 AMD on xp tonite

Old laptop has slowed down by
Gadfly[_3_]
I would try running it from a Linux boot disc such as Ubuntu 12.04 from
ubuntu.com to see how it runs.
You download theISO file, burn it to a CD/DVD using burning software that
can burn
an ISO image file, such as CDBurnerXP, and then with the BIOS set to boot
first from the
CD/DVD drive boot...

BIOS changes boot device priority on its own by
Rebel1
Sometime when I boot, I get this message at the end of the POST:
NTLDR is missing. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot.
My system has two hard drives: a new 1 TB SATA as the primary drive that
I boot from, and an 500 MB IDE drive. When I get the above message, I
find that the BIOS has changed priority...

Ebay video card scat by
Flasherly[_2_]
I can't believe the older generation PCI-e video boards on Ebay.
Those model number chipsets -- it's like reading out of the Book of
Uranus.
Half the performance at the same cost, at best, for way better
benchmarks going on a basic entry ATI Radeon rebated to $20 in a
Sapphire board (does NVida...

Windows XP, snail slow load time for a flight simulator by
John Doe
My SSD is just as fast in Windows XP as it is in Windows 8.
But. Loading X-Plane 10 (a flight simulator) takes 10 freaking
minutes. In Windows 8, it takes 2 1/2 minutes. In ubuntu Linux, it
takes 1 minute and 20 seconds.
It's the first version of the game, so no doubt they will decrease
the...

Best computer for in bed ? by
Skybuck Flying[_7_]
Hello,
There is always a chance that one might become sick or hurt or something and
needs to stay in bed for a while.
Taking a desktop PC into bed doesn't really sound like a good plan, it's too
big ! :)
Thus I am wondering what other kind of PC would be best for in bed ?

Computer cases should come with a small pouch attached to inside
cover.
The mobo should come with a QR code in the box so you can put it in
the pouch.
QR codes should also come with hard drives, expansion cards, CD
burners, CPUs ect.
Need a manual.............Pull out the QR code and scan it.

Setting Up C: Drive by
[email protected]
I am trying to set up an older PC with Windows XP, SP3. It has 4 internal hard drives - 2 IDE & 2 Sata. I would like to make one of my Sata drives the C: System Volume/Boot Volume. My BIOS lists this drive as 'IDE Channel 4 Master'.
The PC keeps assigning one of the IDE drives as C: instead. How...

question about adding an XP based drive to a windows 7 system by

A buddy of mine had a computer crash on him (power supply failure) so we
hooked his older IDE drive up to my windows 7 system to back up his data. My
system runs all SATA drives, so I hooked his up with my spare ribbon cable
(making sure jumper settings were correct) saw the drive in the bios...

supply and checked the...
