copying windows (ntfs) partitions with dd by
[email protected]
Hi,
Does anyone know of any helpful web pages out there that talk about
copying Windows (NTFS file systems) to other hard drives (on a PC
architecture)? I cannot use GHOST because the company that acquired and
ruins good software products does not provide drivers for my hardware.
I've used dd to...

Brocade silworm12000 - user admin by
chris
Hi ALl
I'm struggling to find how to add a user on my 12000 switch.... the
list from "help" doesn't seem to have any user admin commands other
than passwd. I've also looked around the GUI but can't find
anything...
I've been logging on as an admin. Do I need to be root?
Cheers

SCSI vs IDE on wimpy Win2K server (IMAP) by
Jaz
I was considering switching from IDE to SCSI to improve disk
performance on a small Windows box running IMAP.
Would switching from a Maxtor IDE (DiamondMAX) to a wide SCSI disk @
10K on Utra160 drastically improve the time IMAP takes to fetch say,
2000 messages? (present IDE filesystem is NTFS +...

I am thinking about setting up attached storage with a Linksys NSLU2
storage link and two USB 2.0 drives. I do not have any experience with
external drive enclosures and would like to know what features are worth
the money, as well as what brands offer the best bang for the buck.
Does anyone have...

Filesystem performance overheads? by
sg
Hi all,
Is anyone aware of studies that have been done to measure the
performance overheads that result from using a filesystem? We want to
know the performance loss that we would suffer using a filesystem like
FAT16 on a ramdisk versus using the memory as it is (raw reads and
writes to memory,...

I maintain a small cluster of 16 x86 linux workstations in our dept's
mathlab. For years I've had a central fileserver serving up users'
home directories via nfs and a kerberos authentication server. This
allows students to sit at any one of the workstations and get to their
home...

ATA Reliability: Seagate, WD, Maxtor by
_R
Not to start any heated disputes here, but I'd like to get general
feedback re reliability of the three major brands. I run a few Raid
arrays...Actually Raid 0, so reliability is important.
WD was the first to feature larger buffers, and many started using
them as a result of the p.r. surge. I'm...

Backup Exec Remote Agent Requires NetBIOS Over TCP? by
Will
To my surprise, it looks like the Backup Exec 9.1 Remote Agent requires you
to enable NetBIOS over TCP in order to work. It apparently uses NetBIOS
discovery to enumerate devices on the network, and equally disturbing is
that there is not TCP agent in any true sense. It is using file sharing...

and have been unhappy with the...
