Help with bad drive. by
[email protected]
I was using my iPod Shuffle on a Windows PC to install some stuff on my
parent's PC, when it froze and messed up some blocks and clusters. I
use OS X and I have tried the Disk Utility and the iPod software
updater, but it just hits a bad cluster and stops. Is there anything
that I can do to fix...

Confirm problem or other suggestions by
Clark
My computer was running normally but then one day it would not start up.
Pushing the power button yielded nothing----, no video, no beeps, nothing!
Some trouble shooting showed if the power cord was disconnected and
reinserted, pushing the power button yielded a power light and both fans ran
for...

Maxtor's diagnostic utilities by
Random Person
Hi guys.
I recently have major problems with my 80GB 6Y080L0 Maxtor HDD.
Previously they were "drive not ready" and paging/controller errors.
Now:
1) When I try to copy files to it, they either disappear or take
forever to copy. Once the PC beeped, then slowed down and froze about 2
seconds...

USB HD Enclosure problem by
Aes
I bought a an enclosure today for a 2.5 travelstar from a now
non-functioning laptop. And it was duly put in the enclosure ever so
carefully, the LED lights up fine. However when I plug it into the
computer XP picks it up for a second and then says there was an error
installing immediately after...

Was I Ripped Off? by
Joe Befumo
A while back I bought a no-name AMD-based computer from Ebay (Starburst
Computer). The machine purportedly was fitted with 1Meg ram, which,
indefensibly, I never bothered to check until now.
I started having problems with the machine, so I tested both memory chips,
found one bad, and put the...

I just setup everything to run 2 monitors for a larger dektop, which I need

(monitor 1) and one in the PCI (monitor 2). I setup everything in the
display properties as well.

New motherboard, what is this strange part? by
Michael C
I had a machine with a faulty motherboard so I bought a new one and it came
with a part that I don't recognise. It's plastic, black, square and flat,
about 3mm thick and 90 x 92mm. It's got a metallic door thingy on it that
slides to one side when I push it. On the back it's got a small round...

External hard drives by
Steve P
I started pulling any usable parts out of 4 old computers that were taking
up too much space. Only got 2 usable HDs out of ~1hr work. One 2 Gig, one
540 Mb. While clearing out old files from the pre-existing recycle bins on
the drives they acted very strange. They seemed to import all the...

External USB harddrives by
Steve P
I bought one of the cheap Fry's Electronics kits to salvage harddrives from
old computers with bad motherboards. My idea was to clean off all the old
embarrassing files and use them for rescue disks on my current machines.
Some of them work, and some do not fit. An example of one that works is...

Legality of buying a pc with just the XP Pro sticker by
Michael C
I've been buying a few machines for friends and family from an auction site.
They PCs always come with the winxp pro or home oem sticker on them but no
cds. I make a copy of my original xp cd and use that to install it on their
machine using the license key on the sticker. It activates every time...

Hi,
Does it exist devices with several ethernet input LAN sockets and one output
socket which enables me to select by software commands which input port to
connect to the output? (Some kind of KVM switch but for ethernet).
At least 100 Mbps (CAT5 cable) compatible.
Thanks for hints on where I...
