Are there any firewire devices that work with DLT media? by
Steve Maser
I'm looking to replace some aging Quantum DLT SCSI tape drives.
I'd *like* to replace them with firewire devices, but I have such an
investment in the DLT media, that I don't want to start all over.
Are there *any* DLT devices that have a firewire interface instead of
SCSI?
Thanks!

are there any good desktop disk drives these days? by
Paul Rubin
I'd like to buy a quiet, reliable hard drive for a desktop PC.
Capacity, speed, and $/GB are unimportant (within reason). I get the
impression that all the standard ATA-type desktop drives are complete
crap, and not intended for heavy use (continuous power-on even without
a lot of i/o). I looked...

Arena 8600 on an Ultra320 adapter by

We have an Arena Premium 8600 (16-bay) Ultra160 disk array
that works using an Adaptec 3960D Ultra160 SCSI adapter in a
Dell PE2600, or using a PCI Dual Channel Ultra2 SCSI Adapter
in an IBM RS6000/H70, but absolutely refuses to work with a
PCI-X Dual Channel Ultra 320 SCSI adapter in an...

array/partition expansion by
[email protected]
I have a dell server that has a powervault disk storage array
attached. The server is a 2600 poweredge running win2k3 server. The
powervault has 12 slots of capacity with only 4 disks in place now
with approx 400MB of data on the array. We are wanting to expand that
by another 3 disks. If we do...

ASRock Board with SIS 181 Raid-1 - Test of Raid-1 - Boot not possible by
Alex Thies
Hello guys.
Greetings from Germany. I hope you can help me.
I have got an Asrock P4S55FX+ mainboard with an SIS 181 Raid
controller. In the past I used a Raid-1 with two SATA IBM 160GB HDDs
and my Windows 2003. It worked very well. When I removed on HDD
(broken raid1), it was still possible to...

Async Test Cycles by
jOwLeY
All,
I am looking for a way to replicate i/o to a disk array that simulates a
current symmetrix dmx in our environment.
The aim of this is to enable me to take a look at the way that SRDF/A would
behave if I gave it a "real" workload, of differing i/o read and write sizes
(spread accross 2k, 4k,...

Asynchronous replication by

Hello,
I am looking for an idea how to achieve asynchronous replication
because company is getting paranoid about one production server that
is very important for them (us). I will explain shortly what is the
situation.
The server(HP DL360 running Windows 2003) is using storage volume on
EMC...

At what point is ILM needed? by
[email protected]
Hi,
I am trying to figure out at what point I should be looking into some
sort of ILM technology. In reading vendor case studies such as
(http://www.netapp.com/library/cs/mustang.pdf), I dont see why I cant
just keep adding more disks to my primary storage right now as demand
increases... when...

ATA controllers by
_R
Yeah, I said ATA. I'm using add-on ATA controllers to get
up to 4 more non-Raid drives per system. I try to buy what's
out there in volume cause I figure the beta testing will be done
already. Unfortunately, not so for Promise ATA controllers. They
don't seem to be very concerned with tossing...

ATA Reliability: Seagate, WD, Maxtor by
_R
Not to start any heated disputes here, but I'd like to get general
feedback re reliability of the three major brands. I run a few Raid
arrays...Actually Raid 0, so reliability is important.
WD was the first to feature larger buffers, and many started using
them as a result of the p.r. surge. I'm...

Attaching IBM 3592 tape drives to a SAN by
Nicholas Buckley
Hi everyone,
Here's the deal:
Although we're reasonably mature SAN users ( EMC storage, EMC (Brocade)
Directors, IBM pSeries AIX servers ), attaching tape to our SAN is
altogether new for us.
In case you're not familiar, the 3592 uses native 4Gb fibre channel
connectivity ( 2 ports - and hence...

I'm trying to attach a SAN storage to Solaris 8 V210 server using

together with all patches it required. I can see adapter, port, disk
and LUNs via SANsurfer. But when I run "format" only local...

The switch sees the router as a successfull F port and correctly

Auto-Rewind on Exabyte VXA drive? by
Jeremy Billones
We've gotten an Exabyte VXA autoloader to be hooked into our system
for backups. It appears that after every command issued to the
system, it rewinds the tape. Whether it's a write or an fsf,
it's rewinding to the beginning after each operation, which is
rather annoying.
Is there a configuration...
