writing simultaneously to 2 or more network filesystems by [email protected]
Hello, We have a computer (DAQ) that will generate 300GB/hour and we will process the data (images of 18 - 30MB) using a cluster. The data processing *must* occur at the same time as the "data acquisition" so we do not want to use the same network or file-server in order not to slow down either...

write delays on writes to EMC Symetrix by pedro d
Hi We have an app that writes to a 700MB memory mapped file on an EMC Sym from a Sun V480 with JNI HBAs. The Sym has 16Gb of cache. On occasions the app users complain that the app freezes. I wrote a perl script to simulate the app, and measure write performance. My script re-writes a 500MB...

World disk storage production in 1983 by Tim Shoppa
A recent document on bitsavers http://bitsavers.org/pdf/dec/competitiveAnalysis/Engineering_Strategy_Review_Mar82.pdf has an estimate - in 1983 - of worldwide "large disk" production (including IBM) at about 60,000 units. (I get this by adding the "OEM numbers" to the "IBM numbers"). Capacity...

Wintel HBA - Logical to Physical by Jason
Seem's like a straightforward request "How to map the logical - Adapter x, to the physical - Slot y?" but it seems extremely difficult on wintel machines. There are utilities like lputilnt and hbaanywhere, etc for the emulex cards but even these don't show this information. I have tried fcinfo,...

Windowsupdates for NAS boxes by Scott
Hello, I just purchased a Dell 725 NAS box. I loved it, until I ran Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer. When I did that, it showed several critical patches that needed to be installed (the one that fixed the SLAMMER worm of 2 years ago was one of them).

Windows tool for ShadowImage or FlashCopy by s_t_o_r_a_g_e
I had a question on the support of Snapshot technologies on Windows. EMC has something called Symmetrix Integration Utility (SIU) on Windows which is necessary for creating consistent copies of the production data using TimeFinder. They say this utility is required to unmount volumes and lock it...

Windows NAS solutions by Chris Howard
Hi, we are possibly looking to replace a Windows NAS server (vendor shall remain nameless for now), with an HP NAS box. On our current boxes, whenever there is a major code update the operation involves reimaging (effectively ghosting) the server from CD. - Any data on the box is wiped. - This is...

Windows MPIO... is anyone using fiber channel DSM's? by Chocolate
I know that the iSCSI DSM has been available from a number of providers, but in the fiber channel space the only company that seems to be offering support for Microsoft MPIO is HP. Evidently storage vendors need to create DSM's for their disk arrays. I am troubled that other major players in the...

windows file system limit (with Veritas) by Faeandar
Does anyone know if Veritas somehow allows a MSCS cluster to have a file system beyond 2TB? I've heard that it can allow volumes with dynamic disks to grow beyond 2TB but MSCS doesn't allow dynamic disks. Thanks. ~F

Windows driver for EMC Symmetrix disk array? by Hack
I'm struggling to get an HP Proliant server (running Windows 2000 SP4) to recognise an EMC Symmetrix disk array. I'm using a HP "FCA2214DC" fibre adapter in the server (from the Qlogic website, this seems to be re-badged QLA2340). The fibre adapter appears to be working OK in Windows. However,...

Windows 2000 and 2003 Slow LUN scan with multiple LUNs? by jaylucasaustin.rr.com
Hello, I've noticed on both Windows 2000 and 2003 servers that the initial scanning of a single external enterprise storage device that is configured to display many LUNs (anywhere from 16-254 LUNs per port) can take an extremely long time. If Disk Management is open, you'll see the individual...
