heard a load *Crack Crack* noise and so I quickly pulled the power
cable out from the back of the tower. I then opened it up and could
smell a horrid burnt smell but couldn't find the source of it. After
looking around at the...

Cannot Reboot Manually by
Ann
Hi,
Problem: I cannot get the computer to reboot. So I tried the F8
start-up. It boots up, shows the two screens (WIN98 & HP) &
then shuts off.
Right before this happened, I'd downloaded & ran avast
(antivirus). It found 2 trojans, which I put in their chest as
recommended. These were trojana-169...

Which Fan for overheating hard disks by
anneAnna
There are 2 hard drives and one of them is overheating badly.
I've done some prelim searches, but am very confused about what to buy.
I guess I need a fan or fans, but do I need a fan controller?
Some sites give compatibility info, but most don't. Is this essential?
The 2 drives are in the 2nd...

Rebuilt Saturday, died Wednesday, can't reinstall XP by

Hello all.
I built my machine in 1998 and have been upgrading bits and pieces
ever since. As of last March I had and ASUS kt7 motherboard (can't
remember exact model), a duron 950 mhz processor, 128mb ram, and a
4-gig hard drive (don't laugh). In March I formatted the hard drive
and did a full...

having reinstall certain drivers after every reboot. by

Aggreed. I have trashed a great many motherboards with bad caps. The
biggest culprit is the boards with the VIA tech chips. something else
you might try is to replace the battery on the motherboard as it
sounds like it might be going dead. You can purchase a new battery by
the Garage door openers...
