500 gb hard drives -cheap! by
4phun
Has anyone noticed that CompUSA has 500 GB drives for a reasonable
price in today's paper? They say it is an exclusive. Why buy a 300 gb
drive when you can make that a 500 GB upgrade for the same price?

USB boot-up problem by
salaryman
I have a Compaq PC, winXP home, that runs very well. My problem is that when
I connect up my external USB harddrives prior to boot-up, the OS will not
load, and I get a "cannot load OS" message. After boot-up, I can plug in the
hd's and the computer sees them and all is ok.
I had this problem...

Question about sharing IDE cable (Master/Slave) by
Mikey
Is it ok to have a hard drive and DVD burner sharing the secondary IDE
cable? Should I put the burner as the master and the hard drive as the
slave? I only plan to use the hard drive as storage.

External Hard Drives by

I have recently started back to college for my fall semester. One of
the things I have been told I need is either a flash drive or cd-rws
(^^p not gonna get the cdrws). I was wondering, while I was searching
on ebay, for a flash drive, I noticed an external hard drive that could
be connected via...

Hard drives???????????????? by
DJ
Hi
I have two hard drives, only one of which works.
One is a Maxtor 160gb DaimondMax Plus 9
One is a Maxtor 80gb DiamondMax 10.
My MB is an Asus K8v.
The problem is, that the 80 gb drive works and the 160gb one doesn't
(although it used to). Both are pretty new.
I think the 160 must be...

Is My Monitor on the Way Out? by
Si
I have a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB monitor and over the past couple of
days I've noticed a sort of ghost line appears at the bottom of the screen.
It moves up and down a bit and I noticed that, for a split second, the
picture contracts a tiny bit and then returns to normal. I should point...

Heat problem ?? by

Tal Fuchs writes:
Any idea ?
Any suggestion ?
An undersized power supply? If it is overloaded, it might overheat
and shut down, and voltages might drop at the output as the overload
develops.

Possible to repair a hard drive? by
[email protected]
Is it possible to take apart a laptop hard drive and see if it can be
repaired? Are there any details on this type of thing on the web that
anyone knows of? I would like to try this but have not been able to
find any information.
Right now when the laptop is booted all you hear is the HDD...

Building a PVR: Connection to coaxial Jack by
Analabha Roy
Hi,
I'm trying to build a PVR machine that I can watch/record TV with. I was
thinking of using the Hauppauge PVR 150/250/350 card for a tv tuner.
However, the tv-out ports in those and similar cards seems to be either of
the composite type or S-Video type. Unfortunately, my TV only has a 75...

CPU or Motherboard? Who knows? by
NickZ
Hello there
My PC has died & I'd like to hear some opinions as to whether to replace the
Athlon 1300 CPU or the Gigabyte GA-7ZXE motherboard. It was working OK,
then I shut it down & when I tried to start it again a couple of days later.
it wouldn't. I'll describe the symptoms:
The PSU & CPU...

Can I rip XP from Dell's I386 directory? by
[email protected]
I just got a new Dell 9100 system that came with XP Media Center OS.
Few questions:
1. Can I Ghost the system image to another (home built) non-Dell system
with similar CPU parameters.
2. I noticed that they included I386 binaries on the HDD. Can I somehow
copy this to another PC and run XP setup...

Hello all,
i custom built a computer for my girlfriend a couple of years back, and have
received a lot of criticism because the computer has some abnormal behavior.
I suspect that the MOBO i used is a POS. It does not seem to tolerate

UPS by

This is the first time I am looking for a UPS for a small server room.
We need a UPS for our phone system. We do not have a generator, so
we'd like to use a UPS as batter backup for a couple hours. I know
this isn't going to be cheap, but it's our only solution in the suite
we're at.
I opened...

RAM size - 2nd opinion please by
Greg Lewin
Hi All,
I've just built a pc with 1 RAM stick, nominally 1
gigabyte.
Evry measure of the RAM size, by every sort of utility,
including memtest, shows a size of 960 M.
It seems to me I should be seeing the advertised 1024 M.

19 minute boot??? by
s_landa
Today, it takes 19 minutes to go from the "pci device listings" screen and
the xp splash screen. (Before the "welcome" screen.) Usually this is the
place where the "operating system not found" happens. Not today.
I've tried Tune up 2006. Norton. Reg clean. All seem to fix problems,
but not...
