66MHz PCI by
T. Ment
Wikipedia says about conventional PCI:
The M66EN pin is an additional ground on 5 V PCI buses found in most
PC motherboards. Cards and motherboards that do not support 66 MHz
operation also ground this pin. If all participants support 66 MHz
operation, a pull-up resistor on the motherboard...

GT 1030 and GT 520 in one PC. by
[email protected]
Hello,
I want to use the GT 1030 as main graphics card/gpu and the GT 520 as an HDMI/audio solution to try this out.
So I stuck the GT 520 into the PC as well. It has two PCI express ports/slots (winfast motherboard NF4SK8AA (or similiar))
Windows 7 ultimate edition 64 bit is not detecting the...

SATA Crap by
Flasherly[_2_]
Working on Joe Jackson, and went to transfer over some FLAC updates.
Nice new HDD, (10 year old 1T Samsung I recently put in from sitting
on a shelf and waiting for usage as a spare), and the USB copy
transfers slow down to nothing.
Locked up the hardware/controller for a unrecoverable...

how many CPU pins versus DIMM slots? by
[email protected]
I was checking out an old (LGA1366) server, and noticed that it has 9 memory
slots - triple channel, 3 each.
Also have a desktop (LGA2011) with 8 slots - quad channel ,2 each.
So I presume then that each memory channel requires hundreds of pins, but
extra slots per channel only needs a few...

64G Micro-SD/Memory Format/Adaptor Resolution by
Flasherly[_2_]
The USB2 (Standard) USB (Type C) adaptor works.
Halfway or as can be expected with a PC. The Type C, or much else,
isn't worth much to Amazon, as I think they've a proprietary USB
cord/T-C connection, where none of mine are mating with a Amazon Fire
HD Tablet (except for one cord packaged and as...

USB3 PCIe card without extra power plug by
[email protected]
I bought several of these cards, trying to find one that works with older
Centos linux. Most have a PATA Molex plug to import extra power. One has a
floppy disk power plug instead! And one has no extra power.
Now I believe PCIe x1 is good for 10 Watts. The powerless card only has 2
USB sockets, but...

You post them as free on Craigslist or freecycle, and they go away in
minutes.

motherboard 5v by
T. Ment
My legacy ECS K7S5A motherboard BIOS hardware monitor says the 5v is
low. So I used a multimeter to check a USB 5v header pin, and it says
4.75v.
The power supply 5v disk connector has exactly 5v, so the power supply
is good.
If I replace the 5v AGP card with a 3.3v card, the USB pin...

Amazon has that for $8.
A Pacific Rim same item for $1.5:
USB Micro SD TF OTG Card Converter (Type B and a PC USB2 port on the
other end;- Two mini/micro SD slots between.)
Nobody says USB Mini Type-B.

"Microsoft Announces Modern OS" by Paul Thurrott
https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/207439/microsoft-announces-modern-os
In an otherwise innocuous blog post about new PCs announce at Computex,
Microsoft talked up the need for something it calls Modern OS. And it
does not appear to be...

More Delayed Sandisk Weirdities by
Flasherly[_2_]
A year ago or more I got into some new Micro Sandisk cards.
Four or five of them: 16 32 and 64G. New speed Ultra/Pro stuff to
older ratings.
The newest and fastest ones, 64G, I thought I'd bricked.
Then, I recently got a 7" HandDroid, running a variant of *NIX, like
most do.

Kaspersky Rescue Disk Report - can't see full paths by

Ran Kaspersky Rescue Disk last night.
I usually just do a simple scan, (boot, start-up and system files),
which takes a couple of minutes and always comes back clean.
This time I included all my drives, and it detected 460 "objects"
Almost all were false positives (old Nirlauncher zips, debugging...

huananzhi x99-ad3 mainboard = cheap chinese crap? by
[email protected]
Huananzhi has been making cheapo "X79" mainboards to utilise used Xeon
CPUs for people wanting to make a poor-man's server with a new board
rather than one pulled from a server that ran for 24,000 hours without
a siesta. They weren't too bad for the price.
Now they have an "X99" version for...
