Maxtor External Drive Noise a problem? by
Aaron Lake
I've had a Maxtor One Touch 160G drive for about 2 weeks now. Just one concern
though. Often when it starts up it will clang/bang quite loudly for 3 to 20
times, at a rate of about 2 times a second. It makes quite a racket. Then it
settles down never to do it again for that session. It only does it...

Partition Recovery help needed! PLEASE! by
Aartzi
Back at school, I couldn't get my old win95 computer to reformat, so I let my
"knowledgeable" roommate try to fix it. Boy am I stupid. He went into fdisk
and deleted my partition, so now it recognizes nothing. Just shows A:/. When
booting up, it requires the recovery cd in place, shows the usual...

Pls Help: W2K, old BIOS, 120GB HD by
AB
Hi,
I have googled no end and have been confused by seemingly
contradictory information.
I want to add a 120GB hard disk to my aging PC running Windows 2000,
and boot from (a partition on) that drive. It has an AMI BIOS, and I
have flashed the latest available for the motherboard -...

I have searched unsuccessfully to the answer to this - any help
appreciated.
I want to install Windows 2000 on a new Samsung SP1614N disk in a new
system I am building. I understand that this is "tricky" but doable -
can somebody *PLEASE* tell me how, and what's tricky about it?
Detailed...

Samsung 160GB disk temperature by
AB
My new Samsung SP1614N disk feels hot. Is there a utility that can
tell me its temperature? I couldn't find one on the Samsung site.
What is the rated temperature for this disk - anyone know? I have read
specs for other disks that give 55 or 60 deg C as the max ambient
temperature. What about the...

Interrupted low level format on Samsung 160GB disk by
AB
While troubleshooting my new Samsung SP1614N disk installation, I
downloaded the HUTIL utility from the Samsung site. Among other
things, this lets you do a low level format. (Probably not a *true*
low level format).
Anyway, I started this off, and it was incredibly slow. After 5-10
minutes it was...

I have now tried twice to create a bootable slipstreamed Win 2000 +

tries to boot from the CD but complains that "NTLDR" is not found,
whatever that means.
