Laser mouse? by Larry Roberts
I see computer mice (is that the plural?) being sold as optical, or laser. Is there a difference? Does laser mean it's wireless? I have an optical mouse, but my new desk's surface gives it hell. I had to cut out a cardboard box, and tape it to my desktop to use the mouse, but this looks ugly, and a...

DMI Pool Data Verification hang-up by Mechbook
COmputer hangs at "DMI Pool Data Verification" before OS is initialized. After 5 - 8 resets, it offers to open in safe mode. Clicking "normal" gives an ok boot. I would like to fix this DMI Pool hang before upgrading from Win98 to WinXP. :\

dual monitors for gaming without artifacts in the secondary by John Doe
I recently purchased an ATI X1600 Pro AGP, a video card with dual outputs (one VGA and one DVI with VGA adapter). I had casually asked about this before and was told that the secondary monitor does show artifacts after entering a full-screen game, like all my prior experience with using two NVIDIA...

Impressing Women by Mxsmanic
Godzilla Pimp writes: It's hard to do because they're so dumb. Most of the time they have no idea what you're talking about. Are you talking about impressing them with a computer? Most women aren't interested in computers, so you aren't likely to impress them with one. --

A friend of mine is really broke, but was able to recycle/borrow/scrounge some parts to build a pretty decent PIII dual-proc. system with a rather high-end video card (for it's day) to be used mostly for Internet use (!). I've verified everything is compatible, no missing pieces, and I'll help...
