Opinions on CPU choice please.... by ~misfit~[_3_]
I'm thinking of replacing my E4500 @ 3.32GHz with a 45nm part as this was always my plan on buying this mobo (P5K-E WiFi-AP). I'm on a tight budget. I was considering getting an E8400, that was always my plan. However, I see that an E7200 is only 2/3 of the price, has a higher multiplier and...

Too much undervolt results in no BIOS? by chhjposter
Hello! A few months ago i bought a GA-MA78GM-S2H board and an amd 4850e to fit in it. I also got all the other stuff to make a pretty decent htpc, which has been running just fine ever since. Last week i tried to underclock and then undervolt the cpu to see if i could get the temperature down a...

ASrock Conroe E4400 Overclocking problems Part 2 by Cornelius
Have finally got round to investigating the problem. Repalced ram with Crucial DDR2 667. It will now POST to 256 MHz with PCIE Aysnc at 114MHz. NB There is a PCI bus lock so that keeps it at 33.3MHz anyway. DRAM timings are from SPD (makes no diff if not). These are at 255.8 MHz and a 1:1...

avoid disk crash while overclocking? by john
Sometimes when testing the limits of an overclocked system, the hard drive may crash requiring the OS to be re-installed. But without the hard drive, it is hard to run stress tests (most run under winXP). What do you do to avoid having to re-install the OS over and over?

please suggest Q6600 mobo by john
I haven't been keeping up with motherboards for a year. What now is a good overclocking mobo for the quad core Q6600? It is used mainly for video editing and encoding: one 2D video card with dual link (for 2560 x 1600 monitor), 2 to 4G DDR2, winxp or vista (may also setup a virtual pc), many...

Overclocked My Aging Pentium 4 by SAMF2000
I was tinkering around my BIOS after listening to a podcast about overclocking and I found where I could Change the FSB of my CPU. It was running at 2.8 ghz and the FSB Was 133. I slowly crept the FSB to 144 with multiplier at 21 as any higher gave me errors in windows . My 2.8 ghz is now running...

AHCI implememtation under VISTA by Ken
I implemented AHCI on a Vista Ultimate system with three SATA drives (changed the registry to load the MSAHCI service). I think I ended up with two arrays - one containing all the partitions on the boot drive and a second array for the other two drives. I used Vista to recreate the partitions...

CPU speed related to Ram Timing? by news_reader
I have a Northwoods 2.8 and Kingston Hyperx DDR 466. Do I understand that I can push the timings of the ram lower, and also cause of DDR 466, push the CPU higher? I had some Corsair value Select stuff (DDR 400) that I couldn't improve the timings at all, and the CPU would not go past 2.9, but so...

My E7300..... by ~misfit~[_3_]
I mentioned here a while back that I was going to upgrade my E4500 @ 3.32GHz/1.375V for an E7300 and that I was hoping to get 4GHz out of it. Sadly I was aiming a bit high. After much non-POSTing, not loading Windows, BSODs and Prime fails I found that it topped out at 3.6GHz but that it...

Acer M1640 motherboard by [email protected]
Does any one know the identity or number of the motherboard in an Acer Aspire M1640? Or better yet, a link to the manual for the motherboard? The M1640 comes with hard/software support for RAID (NVIDIA). Hard drives are really cheap so I was considering installing RAID 0 support with two drives. Do...

How to read Crucial memory part numbers? by nospam
Can someone explain what's different about these two Crucial memory sodimm modules: CT32M64S4W7E CT32M64S8W7E I understand 32M64, but what's the difference between S4 and S8? Crucial used to have an explanation online, but damned if I can find it now.

Q9550: No price drop?! by Fishface
It seems that the Q9550 prices were not cut along with the E8400 and E8500. They were supposed to drop to the level of the Q9450. Even then, the price is a bit steep for an 8.5 multiplier when compared to the Q6600. Somehow, I lost my Q6600 overclock stability on the Biostar P965. I had to drop...

PC Power Consumption by Phil Weldon[_2_]
A few months ago I posted about a AC electrical power meter I'd found advertized for $18.95. I just purchased one, and have found it useful and accurate. My initial idea was to use it to check PC power consumption for different operating modes and loads. But what with the surge in energy...
