LBA or auto? Which CHS scheme is best in general? by G. Hugh Song
ASUS used to use AWARD bios before the AWARD/Phonix merger. Now, they seem to switch back and forth. Along the AWARD CMOS setup, the default was always LBA. Now, it is very strange. On my A7N8X, it is LARGE when I select the Auto. On my P4PE, it is LBA when I select the Auto. LBA used to...

Is Intel 440 Chipset Compatible with XP Pro? by John
I have a 440BX with Win XP Pro on it, and I've never seen the type of errors you are talking about. If you get a brand new drive, make sure you use it as your main drive because it's going to be way faster than your old drive. Use Norton Ghost's DiskToDisk option to make a clone copy of the old...

Does memory bank order matter? by Sabyasachi Basu
While assembling my PC with an Intel D845GEBV2, I put a 512 MB RAM stick in bank 1 and left bank 0 empty since I had plugged in the AGP card first and the AGP retention mechanism was occuluding memory bank 0. Though everything seems to be working fine, I wonder if there are any performance issues...

Anybody selling Iwill DK8S Opteron boards in the US? by G. Hugh Song
It seems that they started selling it in Asia. Is Iwill DK8S selling here in the US? It appears only MSI Master-F is selling among all the announced motherboards for Opteron 2xx series CPU's. Beside MSI, is anybody really selling Opteron boards in the US? Thanks.

AMD Duron and Duron Mobile compatible? by K-Ray
I have a broken Compaq Pressario 716EA with an AMD Duron 'Mobile' 1200. I have reason to believe the cpu is causing the trouble. To be sure I want to check by swaping the cpu with a working one, but I only have a common Duron(DHD1000AMT1B) and an Athlon (A1400AMS3C) avaible. I didn't find enough...

The Japanese vector supercomputer by Felger Carbon
I bring to this posting considerable humility. I've been very curious about the Japanese Earth Simulator vector processor, in particular the length of any given vector module. Today, an article on nanowires from the Hot Chips conference gave (or implied) some of this information. Question: am I...
