GTXP - Is passthrough of 5.1 audio via S/PDIF supported? by
Dan_Musicant
I'm not getting results when I try to run 5.1 optical or coaxial S/PDIF
into the inputs on the breakout box. The output to my receiver is giving
me only noise. Do the S/PDIF inputs on the GTXP only support stereo?
I'm running the driver I downloaded a couple of months ago. I bought my
GTXP almost...

Windows doesn't recognize sound card by
Chaos Master
Hello.
I have sound card Aztech Sound III 336sp (modem + sound card combo).
I use only the sound part, since I already have a 56k modem.
Suddenly, Windows doesn't recognize my sound card. The Device Manager
control panel shows that it's installed - no hardware conflicts or
missing drivers, but...

Muddy sound all of a sudden from games by
timmons
I have a four-year-old Win98 PC that I use more for email, word
processing, than anything else, but my kids use it to play simple,
low-end computer games.
A couple weeks ago, my son was trying to play an Atari "Thomas the Tank
Engine Saves the Day" game, and it would lock the computer up every...

Soundcard Recording Problem by
leroy
I've recently had a problem recording with my soundcard. It is a
onboard soundcard, and it used to be fine. The problem started when I
tried disabling the onboard soundcard and installing another card.
That install did not take so I removed the card and re-enabled
the onboard card. The audio works...

Converting coaxial to 5.1 by
Rich
Hi,
My laptop computer supports 5.1 surround sound (at least the manual says it
does), but does not have separate outputs for each of the speakers. It does,
however, have a digital coaxial output - would this output all of the
individual signals for each of the speakers? If so, is there any device...

What does my old SB Live! Platinum support for EAX version? by
[email protected]
I have an old Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! Platinum (LiveDrive
not installed) from early year 2000. Can I use EAX 3.0 with my old
sound card? If not, then how high can I go for EAX support? I am using
Windows XP Professional SP1 with all updates and the latest drivers.
Thank you in advance....

Midi dilemma... by
Kontaminator
I've just purchased a Midi keyboard as I want to get into music production
and as I have an Audigy 2 (Value) there's no Midi port on board. I've also
heard of oddities with MIDI to USB converters!
If I stick in my old PCI 128, can I use the Midi port on that, but still use
the higher quality midi...

Games with advanced sound by
Antonio Huerta
I have stormed through Bioshock and through a part of Dead Space, and
enjoyed their sound-rich atmosphere. (By the way, are there any other
such games ? This appears to be the only games I get excited.) I used
onboard sound (Realtek HD, Azalia 1.0 spec). But now people tell me
that my experience...

Very weird sound problems by
[email protected]
I am having an odd sound problem on the kid's computer. It's an older
machine - P450 w Win 98 ES1868 sound card.
The sound has always been fine until a few days ago. Now it has a weird
tone to it. It's a bit trembly, but the odd part is the mix. For
example when playing a song, the music and the...

VIA AC97 woes by

When I first got my present MSI K7A motherboard, I had some problems with
the sound sputtering intermittently. I installed the latest driver and the
problem went away.
I just switched to a new hard drive, doing a clean install of all software.
The sputtering is back. Even putting in the latest...

Can I have two sound cards? by

I have an issue with a multiboot machine. I am very happy with my
old Turtle Beach Montego sound card that I use for Windows 98 and
XP.
Now I've installed SuSE Linux and can't get the sound card working.
I already know it's not supported directly by SuSE. I've gone on
the web and done a lot of...

QUESTIONS: S/PDIF, 5.1, CPU utilization, etc. by
DJ
In general, I'm pretty knowledgeable about this stuff, but on this issue,
I'm stuck.
Question 1: When referring to "digital" speakers, it simply means that the
speakers have a S/PDIF input and can handle the Dolby Digital (and DTS or
whatever else) decoding themselves. (Usually they have a...

problem with sound playback under windows xp pro by
name
Hello.
Somehow I'm baffled by a mysterious problem with sound playback under
windows xp pro.
I suspect it's related to the driver and it's probably a
software-related issue, but I'm puzzled how
to resolve it. The problem is that when I play mono sound files, I
barely hear anything. As soon
as I...

Can't erase vdms. by

VDMS is a DOS window soundcard emulator for winNT systems. I'm having
trouble erasing a file from vdms (launchpad.dll). It's not even part
of the installed files, this is the version of the file that I
downloaded and used to install on the system. It's in a D:\temp
directory I created after I...
