REQ: benchmark help by
H.W. Stockman
Would you help me by running a benchmark on AMD64 and P4 systems with
dual-channel DDR?
I am trying to decide on getting an Athlon 64 or a P4 (875 or 865xx)
dual-channel PC3200 system. Most of the machine's CPU cycles will be
used to run just one program, which happens to be very...

Athlon MP vs Athlon XP vs Barton MP vs Opteron by
Yoyoma_2
Hello,
I have an Asus A7M266-D with dual Athlon MP 1.2ghz and i'me looking to
upgrade.
I'me wondering where i would get the biggest performance boost. By
grabbing two (relativley cheap) Athlon XP processors? Or dropping two
Athlon MP processors?
And what is the difference between Athlon MP and...

So what if thermal compound spreads? by

In article , "CrackerJack"

What exactly is the problem if too much cpu compound is put on the
core and it gets squashed out onto the surrounding area?
Apart from looking messy, is there any real problem with...

Are cpu shims worth using? by
Jim
Correction, the shim is NOT for the purposes of keeping weight off the core,
although it indeed may help in this regard. The shim is primarily to
prevent "rocking" of the HSF during installation. Because the core is
exposed, if you don't place/keep the HSF assembly exactly parallel to the
surface...

Thunderbird and fsb by
Brook
I've got an early socket a Athlon that uses 100 MHz front side bus. I
read somewhere that the Thunderbird becomes unstable beyond 150MHz fsb.
Is this true? I thought cpus didn't care much about the external memory
speed. I think my motherboard is stuffed and would be happy to get a new
motherboard...

TR2-M2 heatsink same as Volcano 9? by
Chris
I have both of these but haven't had time to take both systems down and
remove their heatsinks. The TR2-M2 works great on a Barton 2500+ @ 3200+
with a much quieter fan than the Volcano.....but I still wish it had temp
sensitive speed control.
