Pretty good explanation of x86-64 by HP by
Yousuf Khan
I found this whitepaper from HP to be pretty good, it is surprisingly
candid, considering HP was the coinventor of the Itanium. It does a
pretty good job of explaining and summarizing the similarities and
differences between AMD64 and EM64T, and their comparison to the
Itanium's IA64 instruction...

Lenovo will be using AMD processors in IBM PCs! by
Yousuf Khan
Here's something I found interesting. Lenovo will be using AMD
processors in its business-class IBM PC line. A few years ago, they
wouldn't have even thought of using AMD processors inside business PCs,
for fear that businessmen wouldn't understand who AMD were.

Electronics for ripping old vinyl by
I have some electronics-related questions about ripping vinyl.
Specifically a phone preamp to work into either a sound card or onboard
sound on an ASUS A8N8X-E.
I already OWN the IP, or at least the license to listen to it, and I
don't feel like donating enough money to the RIAA to buy ANOTHER...

SiS doesn't think AMD's integrated memory controller is a good idea by

Chipset house SiS's director was interviewed by Digitimes recently. One
interesting that he said was that he's been encouraging AMD not to keep
integrating the memory controller into the processor.

Difference between low and high-density SDRAM? by
Lance Morgan
I'd like to add a used PC100 or PC133 256MB DIMM to my AOpen AX6BC
BX440. It requires low-density: how can I discern the difference
between low and high-density (I have the mobo manual, and believe I
have a handle on the other spec requirements and compatability
w/existing 2x128s)? Thank you

Intel Bayfield (ATX 865G); reliable? Prescott too hot? by
cquirke (MVP Win9x)
I've been building PCs for a few years now, and since Socket 7 I have
preferred Intel motherboard chipsets (tho generally not Intel mobos).
I recently moved from generic 865G motherboards to using Intel's
Bayfield, which is a full-ATX based on that chipset.
I've found reliability to be more...

I have a PC with an Asus P4-TE mobo. Right now I have 2 Rimms, each 256. My
manual shows that the board can handle 2 GB of memory.
The manual does not say that the memory must be added in pairs but I seem to
have read that and it sticks in the back of my mind. The manual also does
not tell me if...
