Jury rules for AMD in discrimination suit by
CLF
I'm sure I've been discriminated against cuz I'm white, but you don't see me
bitching.
Anytime any minority (which collectivley probably is majority) is passed up
for a job or screws something up it is always discrimination.
Good ruling on this case....

Athlon 64 NG by
Wes Newell
There is now a newsgroup for the X86_64 cpu's (Athlon 64,FX,Opteron).
alt.comp.hardware.amd.x86-64
You will probably have to ask your news server admin to add it. I've had
no luck with verizon yet, but I did get it created on some servers
automatically.
There is a free server that carries it....

Windows reports Wrong CPU Speed. by
Mutley
I have a AMD Pro 3100A+ Processor running on a PC Chips M825G MainBoard.
( http://tinyurl.com/47fus ) with 1GB of DDR.
Windows reports it as a AMD Athlon XP 2000+
Does anyone know why?
BTW, its running at 1.67GHz and its not clocked.

AMD wins back performance crown by
Supertimer
See benchmarks at:
http://www.amdzone.com/
http://www.anandtech.com/
Opteron at 2.0Ghz is categorically faster in the great
majority of benchmarks compared to the 3.2Ghz P4
with HyperThreading enabled.
Memory performance is also superior, something

More proof that Intel sucks by
Godzilla Pimp
I have been building AMD's for a few yrs but made the mistake of buying a
Celeron 2.3GHZ 256MB Dell Latitude ($600 new). What a dog! Decoding Naked
News at the maximum bitrate in WMP takes 100% of the processor.
A T-Bred 1700+ running @2000+ (1.67GHz) uses only 15%.
And it feels so slow, even...

Typical mains power for mid-range PC? by
Jon D
How much mains power does a modern systen unit need?
----
In more detail ... I am in the UK.
My existing PC (socket-A 462-pin cpu with 768 MB SD-RAM) uses about 180
Watts at 240 volts of which about 65 or 70 Watts is to power my CRT.
Printers and scanners would be extra.

Gigabyte or Abit or Asus by
Colonel Blip
Hello, All!
I'm interested in getting a 939 socket m/b and an Athlon64 3000+. I've
always been an Asus m/b person, but thought I would at least test the waters
on views of the Asus vs. other m/b's. Any views on 'best' of these three
manufactures for socket 939?
Thanks.
Colonel Blip.

Quieter heatsink/fan please! by
Paul
Hi,
I've been using a Globalwin FOP-32 heatsink/fan for the past couple of years
and the noise hasn't been that much of a problem until now. but now that i
have broadband in my room, i want to be able to leave the computer on and
sleep at the same time! This heatsink and fan won't let me do that...

ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe + Athlon64 3000+ Overclocking Woes! by
David Rasmussen
In short: HT/FSB will not go above 225 MHz :(
Even if I underclock my memory using a divider and underclock the CPU
using a low multiplier, I can't get HT above 225 MHz without the system
freezing!
Since I am underclocking both memory and CPU, I guess none of these
could be at fault. Or what? I...

How long before CPU fries by
Nick Le Lievre
Dodgy scenario: I need to test a motherboard to POST with an Athlon 64 3000
venice CPU but I don't as yet have a heatsink/fan.
So I was wondering if I could get away with a few secs of power without the
heatsink/fan while I see if the motherboard POSTS.
I once fried an Athlon 1.0ghz by running it...

64 bit processors by
[email protected]
I have a question about the line of true 64 bit processors. When they
are running 32 bit software, do they take the instructions, data,
etc. 2 blocks at a time or is there half of the cpu that is not
being used?? Where this is leading, is to the question is it better
to have a super hi speed...

Static from onboard sound by
Anonymous
I have a Gigabyte 7VT600-1394 and a 2500+ o/c to 3400+ish (14.5x166). The
system is prime95 stable for about 10 hours and seems to run gr8. my
question is, would this much o/c affect the onboard sound? when ever I try
to play a game (Warcraft 3, for example) the right channel has quite a bit

Cooper or gold heatsink? by
Peter Hucker
I have one of those fancy reserators - water cooler. The supplied heatsink block for the processor is gold plated (copper underneath I think). I bought another for the 2nd cpu, and they would only supply the plain copper one. Now I thought the gold was better - that's the way they advertise it. ...
