Looking for a USB Monitor by ***Jamoke***
Adaptec has a USB Monitor that gives you statistics on all USB peripherals that are connected to your system. Unfortunately, it only works with Adaptec devices. All my devices are Belkin. Does anyone know if a USB Monitor is available for Belkin (or any manufacturer)? Specifically, I'd like to...

burned out cpu or memory? by *selah*
A friend of ours has an ibm thinkpad (model 1492). He leaves the battery in even though he has the laptop plugged in to the ac transformer. A few days ago the computer got left on overnight (he usually turns it off after using it) and in the morning the battery was dead, even though it was plugged...

power supply wires cut by *selah*
We recently found a fairly good computer but the power supply wires were all cut. Would it be worth trying to splice them all back together, and, if so, where would we find information on how to do it? Thanks.

Why does Vista's firewall outbound protection block Windows Update? by *^&%$$#*%!
One would think that Microsoft would have put a hook in the firewall to allow Windows Update to function, but nope. If you use outbound protection it doesn't work until I allow wuapp.exe and svchost.exe to pass through and then Windows throws a fit because you created a rule that may conflict...

Want a custom computer..... by +++Bobby \O\+++
I'd like to either build my own PC or have one built - to my specs. However, I don't know where to start. I do know that I'd like the fastest, most failsafe PC possible with room to stay with current technology and room to grow (add more components). I use Photoshop a lot - so I need a good video...

Maybe I just need a very knowledgeable "mentor" by +++Bobby \O\+++
There are a lot of people on this newsgroup that could probably be a mentor (if they wanted to). Point me in the right directions and I'll do the research - then ask the questions that will, inevitably, come up. Any takers?

Maxtor External Hard Drive power supply problem by +++Bobby \O\+++
I have been using two 40GB external Maxtor hard drives for about two years. (Model 3000LE). All of a sudden, both power supplies, within a few days of each other, went bad (Indicated by the LED flashing on the power supply itself when not plugged into the drives - the green light should be...

300MBps SATA by --
Hi Is it possible to make a SATA RAID low cost hardisk array that can deliver minimum 300MBps? Let's say minimum 3TB. The reason I'm asking is that I want to be able to play (and work with) large uncompressed High Definition pictures realtime, but I can't afford the expensive brands. In/out PCI...
