Pretty good explanation of x86-64 by HP by
Yousuf Khan
I found this whitepaper from HP to be pretty good, it is surprisingly
candid, considering HP was the coinventor of the Itanium. It does a
pretty good job of explaining and summarizing the similarities and
differences between AMD64 and EM64T, and their comparison to the
Itanium's IA64 instruction...

How to tell DP35DP BIOS version before buying CPU? by
John Doe
Recently purchased a DP35DP. According to Intel, it will support the
Q9300 and E8000 series with BIOS version 0326. I don't have a spare
CPU. Can I tell which BIOS by looking at the mainboard? Is there much
chance that recently shipped mainboards have an earlier BIOS?
Thanks.

Will Pentium 5 work on existing Pentium 4 (Socket 478) mobo by
Harry Muscle
I'm gonna be buying everything for a new system soon (something around the
2.5Ghz area) however, I'm also planing out my upgrade strategy for the
future. If I go with the an AMD system, I'm basically maxed out at the
currently available 3200+ since the Athlon 64 will require a new mobo. So
I'm...

Using a Intel 82845G with a 16:9 Aspect Ratio on WinXP by
TomRossi7
I am using onboard video, Intel 82845G, on a Dell P4. I cannot figure
out how to get it to run in any 16:9 Aspect Ratios. I'm considering
getting a flat screen that runs at 1366 x 768, but think it may be a
waste of money if I can't support it.
Unfortunately, it is onboard with no AGP slot, so I...

What is the fastest single-core socket 775 CPU? by
Intel Guy[_3_]
Wondering what the fastest single-core socket 775 CPU is.
Unless one (or more) of the following is multi-core, I'm thinking it's
going to be one of these:
Pentium Extreme 840EE Smithfield 3.20GHz 800MHz 2MB
Pentium D 960(D0) Presler 3.60GHz 800MHz 4MB

An interesting viewpoint from an analyst firm about why HP is doing
well, Dell is not; and why AMD is doing well, but Intel is not. It was

Greetings,
I built a pc around Pentium cpu, Intel D865GVHZ board, Antec case/PS back in '06.
Have been running it about 16 hours/day ever since.

Intel faces pricing dilemma from Dell by

Dell has said that it does not want to raise prices on its systems any
more than what it normally does with any other new CPU introduction.
With Intel expected to ask upto 90% per dual-core CPU than single-core,
either Dell is going to have raise its prices, or Intel will have to
reduce its. My...

Commoditization of 4-way by
Yousuf Khan
I know there is a little bit of skepticism (well actually a lot of it) about
x86's potential in the 4-way market. The high-end server market has feasted
on the high prices due to the lack of competition from any commodity systems
at this level. There's been talk for years that Intel is finally...
