Question on Quickpath by
W[_3_]
I noticed that some of the newer Intel i7 processors like 990X and some of
the newer Xeon like E5690 use a separate memory bus from the I/O bus, and
the memory business is run at extremely high speeds. Does support for
this new memory bus technology require a special motherboard?

Latest Athlon 64 product introductions by
Yousuf Khan
AMD introduced 4 new Athlon 64 and FX models. However each one seems to be
designed for three different types of sockets. Athlon 64 3500+ and 3800+ are
designed for the Socket 939, while Athlon 64 3700+ is designed for Socket
754. Meanwhile are now two FX-53 models, the older one designed for...

Microsoft lays down the rules about 64-bit by
Yousuf Khan
AMD introduced the Athlon 64 today, and Microsoft was on hand to intro its
64-bit Windows too. Microsoft said that it will support both Intel and AMD
64-bit, but no more than that. I think what they are referring to when they
talk about Intel 64-bit is Itanium, but no other 64-bit that Intel...

Are 80x86 badly designed processors ? by
Programmershouse
Hello,
Why is x86 badly designed ?
* x86 hasnt enough registers.
* x86 has variable length instructions,
* x86 has mem to mem operands,
* x86 has complex addressing modes,
* x86 is backward compatible with useless features like "real mode" at boot,
etc.
x86 are CISC but RISC processors take more...

Differences between Xeon codes ? Which one for Asus PC-DL ? by
Luke Piasecki
I wanted to buy a pair of Xeon processors (2.4 or 2.66).
There seem to be two kinds of those, each with a different code.
One seems to be 1.495V and the other is 1.5v.
Can I fit either one into Asus PC-DL motherboard ? I can't find any info on
that.
thank you for the help,
Luke

looks like dp31pr does not support vt fully as windows 2008 x64 complained

Is there a setting BIOS I missed?
On the other hand, Virtual server machines seem able to use hardware assist

Why is the E7 so hard to find? by

I was excited when I heard the news that the Xeon E7 chip would bring
to the x86 platfom the kind of RAS features that had previously only
been available for the Itanium (and, of course, other architectures
like SPARC and IBM mainframes).
However, currently, in looking for servers, I find that the...
