acronis & pgp wde by
Chris[_3_]
I want to start using PGP WDE but wanted to see if anyone has
experienced any problems restoring an acronis home edition 11 image
back to the same drive? I've been searching the web and from what I
can tell, it won't be able to restore the mbr and you'll need to use
fixmbr. The information may of...

Samsung ES Tool warning by
Mike Ruskai
I thought I'd pass along the fruits of an unpleasant learning experience.
Over the years, I've used many manufacturer-supplied diagnostic programs. None
of them were destructive, whether from WD, IBM, Maxtor, etc. The Samsung
offering - called ES Tool - has broken from that tradition.
Thinking...

message. Is it the Agent, Server or Console or ?
Which bit do I tell Norton to allow to access the internet?

Finding Jumper Settings For Older Drives by
Searcher7
I've been searching for the manual and jumper settings for a Quantum

http://www.hothardware.com/hh_files/Drives/qatlas10kii.htm
Can anyone direct me to any sites...

Speed of an IDE drive in a USB enclosure ? by
[email protected]
Hi,
I used an old 40Gb IDE laptop drive in a USB enclosure to store Ghost
images. When I'm restoring an image with this drive connected to a
USB 2.0 port, I'm only getting 150Mb /s transfer rate. Is this the
normal speed for such a setup ? It seems rather slow to me.

Phantom drive with errors fixed itself? by
[email protected]
Hi to all.
I just had a strange problem fix itself, and wondered if anyone had
any idea how it happened.
I'm running Vista Home Premium with SP1 and keep it updated. Mobo is
an MSI K9N Platinum with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000 CPU with 2G of RAM,
in a Thermaltake Matrix case with a 750W Toughpower...

XP NTFS Index File System polluted? by
Huh
I am running XP Pro and NTFS partitions with dual boot. I have resorted
to having a dual boot partition because my main primary XP Partition is
horribly slow in starting and accessing apps and even using CCLEANER.
I have run Chkdsk and Scannow and the problem with the file system is
still...

Drive letter assignments - where is that info stored? by
Ian R
Hi
I have several backup drives in removable caddies so they can be swapped
incrementally.
The docking bay the caddy goes in to is on a single SATA channel.
However each drive gets assigned a specific letter. One drive is always "X"
the others are always "I"

dichotomy between failing drive opinion and 'format it' by
[email protected]
I have a Hitachi Travelstar 120 gig drive which is a year old. It
started giving error messages saying that the media could not be found
but then tested OK on the DFT
Suddenly it failed yesterday and gives error code 0x70 with a TRC
7000SAEFF
Hitachi says this means bad sectors and that it WILL...

3ware mapping to disk devices in Linux by
linuxnewbie1234
Hi there
I am trying to map device files to drive serial numbers in Linux.
The reason I am trying to do this is mainly because Linux can swap all
drive letters at every boot. Yes I know that I can use filesystem
labels, mdadm array disk numbers etc, but if a disk fails I want to know
exactly...

Best Backup Software by
[email protected]
I've tried almost a dozen so far, most in the $39 range. All had
issues.
What I'm after is on-the-fly backup software that instantly backs up
files as soon as they are modified or created. That's it. 99.9% of
backup software is time triggered which is pretty damn lame.
Anyone know of any backup...

Is this a failing hard drive? by
naza
I got a problem in trying to work out for sure if my hard drive is
failing. Problems began a few weeks ago when the 160GB Maxtor Drive
began to make a sort of grinding noise. Just to help you out a bit,
its the sound that happens after the three clicks in the sound...
