Sharing RAID0 between LAMP servers? by
Gilles Ganault
Hello
Our LAMP application is showing I/O latency. I was wondering if we
could move to multiple Apache servers, each connected through their
own disk controller to a single, shared RAID0 bay?
Our hoster recommends that we use a NAS, but I'm concerned about
network + NFS latency.
Thank you for...

Upgrading AIT Firmware by

I hope this is not too mundane a question for this group, but I need to
upgrade an AIT-3 tape drive with 0209 firmware and obtained from the tape
library vendor the firmware file that ends with .GBF. Going to the Sony
web site, none of the utilities for Windows appear to take files that end...

Offsite Backup by

I run a small business with two office locations and would like to
back-up each server to the other via internet. I understand there are
many web companies marketing automatic online backup services;
however, I hope to reduce costs by backing up to my own remote
systems. Thank you for any help...

Data integrity on serial ATA disk drives by
Robert Kindred
I've seen a lot of switching over from IDE disks to serial ATA disks. In
fact, an Intel blade server we want to purchase does not have any choice.
The question I have not been able to answer is, "Do they provide the special
services that high reliability systems need?"
What I mean by that is...

Raid suggestions? by
howa
Hello,
We have just bought Dell MD1000, together with 15 SAS 15K hard disks.
This server will be connected to 6 web servers which provide a
centralized storage using NFS.
This server is important as if it down, other web servers didn't work
so I need to consider if which Raid configuration is...

iscsi reading materials? by

Does anyone have any book, manual, or website recommendations for
iSCSI? I'm starting from scratch with iSCSI but have an FC SAN
background. Borders and Barnes/Knoble have a few titles that run from
$80-$120 that they offered to order for me, but I'd prefer a
recommendation from someone that has...

Some questions about SAN file management by
Kurt Lin
Hi all,
I have some questions about the file managerment system on SAN
architecutre.
Since I want to build a SAN system that all of the servers can read/
write the same disk volumn simultaneously, a file managerment system
is needed to control the data access.
Is there any good data management...

researching a "growable" long-term storage solution by

Hello!
I'm thinking of putting my various CDs, DVDs, digital pictures, backups,
etc. on a large array of disks. Performance is secondary to reliability
and the software or hardware RAID5 will do.
There are two issues, however, which most common RAID5 setups don't seem
to address without...

Disabling disk cache? by
Nuno Magalhaes
Is it possible to disable hardware disk cache? Not the software cache.
I can read files with no software cache, opening them without
buffering (FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING) but I can't avoid the hardware
cache.
Is it possible to get the hardware disk cache size? Or even disable
it?
Thanks a lot.
