Is Athlon 64 socket AM2 = Socket 939 ? Is Athlon 64 3000+, 3200+, 3500+ Always = Venice core ? by Michael Hertz
I am a bit confused about the AMD naming: Is the socket AM2 (for Athlon 64 CPUs) the same as Socket 939 ? If not: What are the differences / which is better resp. more future compatible ? Do Athlon 64 CPUs with the labels 3000+ or 3200+ or 3500+ ALWAYS have a Venice core (= a core with low (67...

Anyone Using an Opteron 180 with a Gigabyte GA-K8NSC Motherboard? by J. Hinkey
Gigabyte says it will not work and that only a Opteron 170 will work. However I've seen messages from people who've gotten an Opteron 180 working just fine on a GA-K8N SLI board which Gigabyte also says will not work. So are they just pushing me away because they have not tested it or is there...

athlon 64 x2 4800 by Chrisj
I have a water cooled athlon 64 x2 4800 and the other day when I walked in the room I smelt the faint smell of anti-freeze. So I checked my temps and saw that the cpu was @105c. I immediately shut it down and took care of the problem, rebooted and everything seems fine. My question is does...

Opteron 185 on MSI K8N Neo2 by Fpbear II
I'm going to try out the Opteron 185 on the K8N Neo2 board. If I wanted to try a "safe" overclock setting to squeeze out just a little more speed, what BIOS settings would you recommend? Stability is also important so I would like to stick with conservative settings (it's not in a...

I can't find such an option the BIOS menus... my DDR2-667 5-5-5-15 could work quite OK as DDR2-800. Now I want to try raising the CPU speed while keeping the RAM at 400Mhz. What should I do? -- .~. Might, Courage, Vision, SINCERITY. http://www.linux-sxs.org / v \ Simplicity is Beauty! May...

NewEgg FX 2.6ghz deal no codes no motherboard by yadayada
Not as good a deal as the amdrocks code thing, but... beats most of the single core alternatives. Newegg has a special on the 939 AMD FX 2.6ghz 90nm core cpu OEM ~$140. No codes. No motherboard. No multiplier lock. Run fast with cheap ram.

When is the best time to upgrade my Sempron 2800 chip (to faster Sempron?) by 405 TD Estate
I have a 6 or 9 month old PC based on socket 754 and Semprom 2800 with a good overclocking motherboard. When would be the best time to upgrade the chip to a faster one? I.e. in a year is it likely I could buy a Sempron 4500 for 40 quid? Or will they stop production on it? Currently my PC is fast...
