AIB Companies To Adopt XGI Volari GPUs? by graphics processing unit
While not directly related to Nvidia or ATI, the fact that XGI is entering the consumer graphics industry with its range of Volari GPUs may effect both of the current leaders. hopefully in a positive way, for the end user. God knows we could use some more competition here. Personally, I am most...

Alienware & Dell rumour by YKhan
Unconfirmed: Dell buys Alienware - Alpha Blog - alpha.cnet.com http://reviews.cnet.com/4531-10921_7-6464030.html Might be a way for Dell to start selling AMD machines. Gateway did a similar thing to sell AMD machines by buying Emachines. Yousuf Khan

All Computers suing Intel...Bogus by ByteEnable
In my opinion, the suit is without merit. The patents cover a logical method to start and stop a clock signal going to a CPU with phase. Its primary invention was to OVERCLOCK a cpu. Intel's clocking methods use advance circuitry such as high frequency PLL's and other forms of more sophisticated...

Allocated video memory? by dk_
Can I increase the BIOS setting for the "onboard" video memory? Currently the BIOS shows 8 MB allocated to video, in my HP Celeron D 340 machine. The machine has only onboad video. The specs from HP's site read... "Video graphics: Integrated with up to 64 MB allocated video memory"

Alternatives to CTSPD ??? by TMack
I have found the utility CTSPD that reads the SPD chip on dimms to be useful. However it doesn't work with some motherboards, returning the 'chiset not found' error. Does anyone know of an alternative utility that can give a readout of the SPD eprom on a dimm? Tony

ALU/FPU register width performance impact on big number computing? by Bubba
Greetings to everyone, If we take a processor with 16bit precise ALU and try to compute a factorial (n!) form 2^80, what happens with ALU then? To be more precise, does ALU width (precision) limits it from computing numbers higher than it can allocate and how (if?) does it impacts performance of...

Amazing K8 SPECfp score by David Kanter
According to http://www.sun.com/servers/x64/x4600/benchmarks.jsp#question1 Sun appears to get around 3500 on SPECfp. They seem to be using some sort of autoparallelizing trick in Sun's compiler (which is rather well known for SPECtacular optimizations). I am definitely impressed and quite...

AMD 2000+ won't start when set to 133Mhz by [email protected]
Hallo! I installed today a new processor cooler for AMD. My CPU is AMD Palomino 2000+ and it was working well with the old cooler but it was too noisy and sometimes the temperature went over 70 C. Now after I turned on my PC I got only black screen, the system was not starting up. After 2 restarts...
