Where to start learning Intel assembly? by
Dave Rahardja
How does one begin to learn to code x86 assembly? I know where to find
the IA-32 developers manuals, but how do I start writing assembly
programs for a Windows PC?

The great leveling by

IBM has created a graphic showing the various Itanium sales forecasts over
the years, where every subsequent sales forecast shrinks lower and lower,
which can be called the "Great Leveling".

Northword vs Prescott by
Alan Walpool
Hi,
Why does the northwood cost more than the prescott for the same speed
chip? I thought the northwood would be cheaper since this is the older
slower chip.
Whatever. Just curious why a older chip costs more than the newer
chip.
Thanks,

Dual Processor or Single Processor with more cache? by
PartiPooper
I'm in the process of configuring a W2k server for general file/print
sharing and for the same price have the choice of;
A Single Xeon 3.06 w/1MB cache or a dual Xeon 3.06 Ghz w/512K cache
each
Anyone know which would be better? I assume the dual processor but
it's only a guess.
Thanks

How to tell if laptop CPU is overheating? by
Spammay Blockay
I replaced the processor in my IBM Thinkpad A31 today, going from
a 1.8Ghz to 2.4Ghz Pentium 4-M.
When I replaced it, I noticed a layer of thermal grease that had
been placed on the processor (I assume for a close contact with the
heatsink, which was placed just above it).
Unfortunately, I didn't...

Need CPU-temperature monitoring software that runs in DOS/at boot by

Does anyone know of a cpu-temperature monitoring program
that runs under DOS, or is part of a boot-time suite of
apps? I want to monitor cpu temperature on a system with no OS
installed.
I would use the available Linux utilities to do this,
but my Slackware boot disk doesn't have a kernel with...

Confusion with P4-M -- Retail Versus OEM?!? by

Hi all...
I ordered a Pentium 4-M from PC Connection, and it arrived.
The thing is, it arrived, in an Intel box, but without the fan
and heat-sync it was supposed to come with.
I called PC Connection, and they said, yes, it was supposed to come
with one. But they didn't know why it didn't.

Microsoft shortens Windows name by
Yousuf Khan
The previously named Windows XP and 2003 "64-bit edition for 64-bit extended
systems" has now just been shorted to "for X64". Eg. Windows XP Pro for X64
or Windows Server 2003 for X64.
Looks like Microsoft has decided on X64 as the universal moniker for all
X86-64 marketing names.

difference usb and usb 2 by
crocky
Hello,
I have a pc and a laptop.
I know for sure that my laptop has usb2,
but I don't really know if my pc has usb2.
When I go to 'Device Manager' on my laptop or pc, I see nothing that tells
me it's usb2. So I can't really know.
Is there a way (a tool or so) to detect if I have usb2 on my pc?

Celeron D compatibility with Celeron by
Jim
Hi,
I have a mother (Asus Digimatrix) that supports P4 and Celeron. Do you
think it will also work with Celeron D? It is not listed as supported CPU.
But, I thought Celeron D is fully compatible with Celeron.
I purchased a Celeron D 2.4G. The mother board does not even boot. No
beep and no VGA...
