Quad core or i7? And homebuilt PC forums by
Al Bundy[_2_]
I havent built a PC in many, many years for myself.
I have to upgrade now. I want my PC to last me several years, at least 3
years without upgrading anything except the RAM and Hard drives. I'm an
Intel person. I'll be doing lots of multtasking and video editing/authoring.
I'm really undecided...

my last computer, and I have not really kept up with the latest
developments. I'm planning to build a new system for Windows 7, and would
like some recommendations regarding components. My new system will be used...

HOMEBUILT vs NAME BRAND by
BrightStar
Considering I want to get a relatively inexpensive machine, what would
be the most compelling arguments for building a computer vs getting a
name brand PC?
For the same price, is the home built one generally any faster? I
know it is more versatile for parts replacement and I am not stuck
with...

Why you should never buy Symantec / Norton products by
Dave
Built a computer for my nephew a couple years ago. It was so nice at the
time, that it's still a decent gaming machine. He's living with mom's
boyfriend, who was trying to be helpful. So he (mom's boyfriend) upgraded
the system from (sygate personal firewall plus AVG anti-virus) to...

Advice Please: The Importance of Hard Drive RPMs by
Darren Harris
Can anyone tell me if hard drive spindle speed is an important factor
to consider when purchasing a hard drive?
Or should I just concentrate on average latency, average access, and
max. full seek time?
I ask because two hard drives with a data rate of 80mps can differ in
these other...

George L.
**** Post for FREE via your newsreader at post.usenet.com ****

and not tell customers? I took my Compaq equipped with
80 gig HD to ****USA but got back a 40 gig. My data wasn't
lost, but the drive is definitely smaler, according to...

Migrating to an SSD by
Yousuf Khan[_2_]
Okay, got myself an SSD now. So I want to migrate my Windows boot drive
to it. I have access to a couple of cloning utils that can properly copy
system disks and make them bootable, so that's not a problem. However,
I'm wondering if it's really that simple? I understand that there are
some...

Comp USA idiots, part 897: by
[email protected]
Comp USA advertised a Mad Dog 350W power supply for free after rebate,
so I decided to check it out. Unfortunately neither the MD website nor
the product box listed anything about its amp ratings, and Comp USA
didn't have any I could look at without paying a 15% restocking fee to
open the box.
So...

Noisy CPU fan by
goo_lu1
Hi,
I find my PCs (no matter PII, P4) produce big noise after power up and
most of the noise being produced by CPU fan. I haven't tried
overclocking in any of these PCs and I even open the case to improve
ventilation but with no improvement. I would like to know how can I
reduce that noise due to...

WD Raptor or WD Caviar in RAID setup? by
Matt
Hey guys. I'm interested in getting a hard drive aimed towards the
performance end of the consumer market. I'm keen to get a WD hard
drive as I have had good experiences in the past.
To that end, a WD Raptor 10,000rpm 150GB drive for £115 sounds like a
good idea. However, I would like more...

Skybuck Flying[_7_]
Hello,
I was just on the Sega/Company of Heroes Beta feedback forum and I wondered
and thought this is a good question for usenet people ! ;) :):

1. Lack of demanding games ? (probably not)
2. Lack of good games ? (maybe)
3. Windows 8 sucks ? (bad...

Increase the performance and lifespan of your SSD by
John Doe
Anybody else consider the possibility that periodically moving the
swap file on an SSD might help prolong its life while reaping the
benefit of an SSD swapfile?
In other words... Instead of putting the swap file on a conventional
drive, keep it on your SSD. Every once in a while, but just the...
