Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller might be bad for privacy and effect your hardware by Norm Why[_2_]
Hi, Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller might be bad for privacy and effect your hardware. In my last reply here I explained how I am recovering from some bad PC symptoms. Enlightenment came when I saw an image of storage file for a PC SSD on my Android smartphone. I had been trying to access...

Gigabyte BIOS Upgrade F11b BETA solved a lot of diffuse hardware problems by Norm Why[_2_]
Hi, A 'lot of diffuse hardware problems' is a story too long to recite. I was reluctant to upgrade to a BETA BIOS. When I did I thought I'd bricked the machine. After a nights sleep, I realized the upgrade had reset to defaults / PCI monitor rather than PCIe. Now hardware works perfect....

HDD vs. SSD by [email protected]
I have a 10 year old Dell that came with an approx 960 GB HDD. 3 years ago I added an approx 240 GB SSD to serve as C: and D: , and elevated the HDD as F: for large items, photos, music, etc. Both the HDD and SSD have always performed flawlessly, but was wondering how long I can expect this to...

How it is possible by micky
How it is possible that one SSD is 17 times as fast as another but costs less? Both are 240G. Why would anyone buy the slower one (like I did last summer)? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5IB20Q?ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details&th=1 350 Mb per second ...

Why is this HDD so small? by micky
Why is this so small? Alternatively, why aren't they all so small? Less than 4" x 1 1/4" x 1/3". Is it a real HDD, a spinner, with a rotating platter? It calls it a harddrive more than once, and never uses SSD, etc. but it's so small....

Can Win8.1 laptop show CD movies? by [email protected]
Or did the movies all come on DVDs? The laptop is about 4 years old and came with W10 installed, which was changed to W8.1, for G3-dongle compatibility. It's got a HDMI socket, which the TV also has. So would the video show on the TV? And what about sound? What preliminary tests can I do with my...

Windows 10 MAIL has a backdoor by Norm Why[_2_]
I have a civil dispute with Psychologists in Brazil. A murder committed in Canada is unethical in Brazil - Very controversial. Windows 10 Mail would not permit me to send Mail to ethical potentates in Brazil. Thank goodness I still have Outlook Express on WinXP. Microsoft backdoor defeated.

HDMI vs USB by [email protected]
For a variety of reasons, the Smart TV features on my 43 inch LG are a royal PITA - I've been using my laptop and connecting to the TV with a Display Port=HDMI cable. The TV also has USB sockets - is there any significant difference in quality between HDMI and USB cables when used ...

Years ago I used a HDMI cable from a RaspberyPi to the TV. Later I had a problem and suspected the HDMI cable. Now I want to revive the Rpi, but get no signal on the TV. How could the laptop test/confirm the cable? TIA.

Are both SSDs the same? by Boris[_7_]
I'm looking at two desktops. I can't tell if the SSD is the same on each configuration, because one says NVMe, while the other doesn't. Is it just sloppy description, or are both SSDs the same? 1) 512GB PCIe M.2 SSD +1TB SATA 7200 RPM HDD 2) 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive + 2TB...

SD vs microSD by Joe rock
Hello, if the speed and quality of solid state memory depend by internal controller , what could be better SD or microSD ? For example main difference by SSD and a SD is the internal controller ( a SSD have many arm cpu as internal controller ) , so a SD could be better than a microSD because...

Good and affordable UPS for Corsair CX450 by Jimmy[_7_]
I've built a "basic" PC desktop, I mean 150-200w max for "basic" including my monitor, with a Corsair CX450 PSU (OEM CWT RPS0053) with active PFC. Now I need a UPS but my budget isn't high to get the best (eg. an online UPS) so I'd like to buy a UPS with the best quality/price relationship for my...

A friend of mine is a small hotel owner in Florida and wants a printer which can copy driver's license on one side and car registration card on another and use only the required paper instead of 8.5 X 11 size paper. His business is down because of the pandemic so he is trying to save on paper,...

SATA300 vs. SATA600 compatibility by Norm Why[_2_]
Hi, I have a 500GB Seagate Barracuda that comes with a 5 year warrantee. I'm having problems where various files became corrupted and don't work. I've exchanged it once. Seagate Tools said it was slow. Maybe I'm doing something wrong under the assumption that SATA300 and SATA600 are compatible?...

Can a weak CMOS battery prevent detection of a drive by Norm Why[_2_]
I read that weak CMOS battery can prevent detection of a drive. I have two SSD drives. One an old Samsung 500GB boots reliably. Drive D: is a new Seagate Barracuda, 500GB that is not detected reliably. I've done everything conceivable with the cables. I've read bad reviews on the...

4 cores by micky
One of the watchwords of computers used to be that they only do one thing at a time, and they just switch from one thing to another very quickly. However, now that cpu's have 2 or 4 cores or more, is that still true? Does my cpu with 4 cores do up to 4 things at the same time? Then, if it's...
