WD drive warranties by
Dr Bombcrater
Bought a 160GB PATA Western Digital drive (WD1600JB) from Misco this week.
Their site lists this drive as being covered by a 3-year warranty, but WD's
warranty checker says it's actually a 2-year warranty.
Has anyone who's bought one of these lately checked the warranty? I'd love
to know if Misco...

Buy SATA now for IDE mobo? Later use adapters for IDE on SATA mobo? by
Jon D
I want to get a new hard drive but don't know if the adapters to
convert between PATA and SATA could limit performance.
--------
Am in the UK. My home PC has an AMD 2200+ and runs XP Pro.
The motherboard has 2 IDE sockets for HDD. The PC also has an IDE
extender card.

System with 3 ISA slots? by
Paul Hutchings
Other than DIY, any suggestions for where to find an "off the shelf"
machine with 3 ISA slots?
Nothing too special is needed, but it does need to have a Celeron-D/P4
level of CPU.
The main thing putting me off of the DIY route is that these won't be
based at the same place as me so some sort of...

Reliable external HDDs? by
ric
Hi,
Got a mate who wants a reliable external HDD to share between Mac and
PC.
Can anyone recommend one that doesn't have crappy cooling that's going
to kill the internal drive eventually? Odie, if you're around, are
there any that you don't hate?

Graphics card with DVI out at 1680X1050? by
[email protected]
My new Philips monitor has a resolution of 1680X1050. My existing
cheap and nasty graphics cards handle this at analogue, but not
digital.
And trying to track down the resolutions that various cards deliver
seems impossible. That is one of the specs they seem to bury.
Anyone got any...

Avoid Aria & Digimate/Hansol/Arianet TFT LCDs by
Lordy
Spend the extra few quid and get a 'branded' screen somewhere else.
My first Digimate (bought this time last year) was excellent.
Since then , in trying to get a dual screen set-up, I've been through 4.
1st From SVP - Dead Pixels all over the place. Returned.
2nd Aria - Dead Pixels -...

Opinion needed: EWest.co.uk by
cdtech
Has anyone had any experience buying from www.ewest.co.uk?
One thing I noted there was that the model numbers on almost all
motherboards I saw were missing when I last checked about 2-3 days ago?
Thanks

Verified by VISA - Compulsory? by
A. J. Moss
I've just placed an order for some computer hardware with an online
retailer.
I tried to use one of my credit cards to pay for it; once I had entered
my card details, it took me to a Verified by VISA page, and refused to
let me do anything - either authorise or cancel the transaction -
without...

Power surge killed iiyama 18" TFT, any comments on Dell 20" offer by
John Perry
We had a power cut this afternoon, so I switched the power switch off
to the study when my PC equipment is and only powered on the ring main
after the power was restored.
But just my luck that my iiyama 4637 18" TFT packed up over the power
outage, so I am using a standby monitor.
Anyway, Dell...

Praise for Tekheads by
Lol
To adjust the positive/ negative balance:
My CD/DVD drive started chewing disks yesterday, so I ordered a replacement
from Tekheads late afternoon.
Came 9:30am this morning - almost quicker than if I'd said "hey this is
urgent" and gone up the road to PC World, to get half the quality for...

Why is one required to supply irrelevant details? by
Interesting Ian
Could someone please explain to me why online retailers demand information
which is wholly irrelevant to the purchase in question? I was going to
order a hard drive from www.kikatek.com, but they demand to know my date of
birth, my gender, and my landline telephone number! Why on earth should...

Faulty goods, credit cards & recivership by
Paul Womar
I'll try and keep this short but please ask if more info is required.
In August I bought a digital camera from InternetDirect (a trading name
of Nomatica). It has an intermittent fault that renders it unusable for
upto 48 hours at a time. I simply couldn't put up with it and needed a
new camera...
