External Drive Dock to Allow Hotswap SCSI to Attach by USB? by
W[_3_]
NewerTech make a product named Voyager Q to interface SATA drives to a host
by USB, Firewire, or eSATA. This is sometimes called a "drive toaster"
because of the way you can mount a drive vertically into the enclosure
without the need for any tray. Does anyone make something similar for...

Backup strategy advice required please ... by
Rob Keel
Hi,
I thought maybe it was about time I implemented some kind of backup strategy
for all my personal files at home.
I have a bundle of data cd's and was just wondering what methods other
people have adopted in order to insure against future data loss.
How would I go about creating an exact copy...

Hello everybody.
I'm trying to attach a SAN storage to Solaris 8 V210 server using

EMC Locks Customers Out Of Their Own Systems? by
Jeffery
We've got a rumor running around in our shop that EMC, and especially
with their CLARiiON product, that they lock customers out of the system
so that only EMC Support reps can perform what I would consider
standard debugging procedures.
I mean stuff like determinging if a particular disk in the...

maximum number of physical disks in RAID 10 by
[email protected]
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows why RAID configurations top out at a
certain number of physical disks. For instance, every controller I've
looked at only supports up to 16 physical drives in a RAID 10 array, or
up to 128 in a RAID 50 array, and I don't see any reason why you can't
have...

Exabyte tape loading problem by
Phil Skuse
Any Exabyte DLT robot experts out there?
I am having a problem with our Exabyte 230D. It does not push the tape
all the way into the drives. The way that it is supposed to work is
that it places the tape about 3/4 of the way into the drive, then the
grippers release, it backs off a couple of cm,...

Scratches on recordable DVDs ? by
Will Dormann
I'm not sure if this is appropriate for this group or not. I know
there are DVDR groups, but they mostly seem to be filled with posts like
"Does anybody have a crack for program?"
Anyway, I was going to make a "rescue" DVD of a system and I noticed
that the DVD+RW had a scratch on it. I was...

Hi Guys
I have recently been given eight 250GB SATA MaxLine Plus II hard drives. I
was wondering if anyone could recommend any storage server configurations
for use as a file/storage server on my LAN? Possibly RAID etc?
Many thanks

Solid State Storage by

Has anyone out there used really big and fast solid state storage. I'm

like to use Linux and plan on using Fiber Channel. Anyone have any

Disk system for storing archival data by
richard rhodes
I am interested in our thoughts and comments on a raid system that
would be used for storing archival data.
Requirements:
- maximum capacity
- minimum dollars (but not cheap, as in poor quality)
- minimal performance need (the data mostly just sits there)
- must provide "phone home" capability to...
